Serial, the batteries are wired so that their voltages all add up - in other words, 3x17670 (at 3.6v per battery) in a series would be 10.8 volts (give or take a bit). This creates high voltage.

Parallel, the batteries are wired so that they're acting like one big battery, with the same voltage... so 3x17670 in parallel would be 3.6 volts. This creates a high amperage hour.

At least, that's how I think of it! :shrug:
