I just received the Zebra Light H50-Q5 Headlamp from Zerbra Light.

Costs $49.00 + $5.00 (shipping). There is a special upgrade during the month of February for EMS Shipping for the same price.

From ordering the light and receiving the light it took 17 days.

The fit is good.

The machining is good

The Type III Hard Anodize is excellent.

Uses CREE XLamp XR-E Q5 Bin.

Impact resistant LEXAN polycarbonate lens.

120 degree beam. Very different type beam than I was used to. Very smooth light. No hot spot just a flood light. If you are looking for a beam thower this is not the light to get.

Uses rear twistie. Three levels of light. Low, medium and high. Tailcap Operation sequence: OFF, low, OFF, Medium, OFF, high. If the light is turned off for more than 5.6 seconds, the light level resets to low.

The threads on my light were gritty but a cleaning and lubrication solved that problem.

I also cleaned the back of the Cree module with Deoxit DL100 (Red). There was some black stuff that came off. Coated it with Deoxit G100L (Gold)

Uses one AA alkaline, NiMH rechargeable or lithium. Limited Li-ion support: when used with a 14500 Li-ion battery, the light output levels are the same at Low and Medium but lower at High. Runtimes will be shorter. Reverse polarity protection.

Performance of the H50-Q5 (from the website)

Constant ratio output level spread. Fully regulated.

Low 2.6 lm for 3.5 days
Medium 13 lm for 19 hr
High 66 lm for 2 hr 20 minLight levels are out of the headlamp values. Runtimes performed using a Sanyo 2700 mAh NiMH battery.

Great review ersanada! :) Isn't the Zebralight cool? The sure give you a lot of accessories with it.

Thanks, I always look forward to your reviews. You take such great pictures.

I am really interested in the new CR123 model and also the upcomming H40 AAA headlamp. Zebra Light makes some really nice lights and I can see their products serving both duel purpose headlamp and pocket light.

Thanks a bunch. You have pretty much (generously) provided me with a quick link and reference for all the lights that I own; which obviously makes recommending them to friends all that much easier.

I cannot see any advantages in the CR123 model. Every Li-Ion is potentially dangerous, I would not like to wear such cells directly on my head. :poof:

Great review ersanada! :twothumbs

Great review as always, but just one question is it not 120 degree beam pattern? as stated in the specs?

Also I have been looking for something like this for the odd electrical repairs I do,does it give decent light for such a purpose thanks.

You are correct.

Post corrected.

I like it for any kind of closeup work such as that because it can be worn, clipped, hung or stood up in just about any position that is needed for both you and the lighting requirement itself.

Thanks Rzr800,I'm sold I spent hours going through the threads and posts and it seems my headlight search is over.I have some ideas of my own to try when I get it,for different situations if any are good I will let you know. :twothumbs

I wore the H50 headlamp last night and it feels very comfotable. It's not like some of the other type headlamps that you can feel the band or the weight of the lamp.

The beam is 120 degree and smooth with no over powering hot spot. If you want something with a bright hotspot this is not the headlamp for you.

This would make a great headlamp for reading at night especially if you are out camping.
