Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Steve, domestic priority is $4.80 for the kits.

Thanks, list updated.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Dennis, I got my MZXR-7 module yesterday.

That was so nicely made! Excellent build quality and highly precised. It is really an art with the best design and quality. PK should really hire you for $urefire. If these drop-in modules are available from $urefire, their sale on M6 will definitely go up. Maybe you should get these heatsinks and builds patented, Dennis.

Thanks a lot again.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Chris, thank you.

I've picked up the first few sinks and contact pieces to get a head start prepping them.

Here they are after tapping, deburring, and block sanding.

There are a few dimensional changes to the second run, the only visible one being the length of the contact piece. Note the first run parts at right. The recess in the sink is deeper to accomodate, and the added length allows additional room in the cavity for ease of wiring.

Dennis those are just outstanding. I was amazed at the thought put into the first ones that worked quite well and now you make it even easier on us.

Thanks Dennis for the hard work.

I really like the look of the M3 body without the rubber rings on it and I've long thought about removing mine. How does the light feel in your hands without them? And did you remove yours without cutting so that it's not a permanent thing?

I recieved the body without them.
They are pretty easy to get off.
Just slowly work them off.

It feels great in the hand without them and looks good too.:grin2:

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

I have most of the sinks in hand and am waiting for just a few more to be made.

I've been busy primping and preening them for ano, and will hopefully be able to deliver them to the anodizers late next week.

I am trying to have everything ready to ship in a couple weeks.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Great - Thanks for the update

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

I dropped the lot off at the anodizer today for gold chromate and HA black.

I should have them back in a week, almost there.

Thanks everyone for your patience.

While I am waiting for the sinks to be anodized, I am having some 19mm McR19XR compatible aspheric lens holders made.

The test units are pictured below with a McR19XR at far left. The holder is dimensionally based on the McR19XR and is interchangeable. I did add the Cree centering lip a la McR17XR on the bottom.

dsc2017.jpg

These will be available as an option to purchasers of the MZ kits or builds. Pricing will likely be $22 ea for the drop-in lens/holder.

Unfortunately I don't have any built MZ mods on hand to test out the beam, so I swapped out some of the McR19XRs in a quad-Q5 1C Mag I built (750 mA drive level). Here it is chocked full of the 19mm aspherics:

dsc2020.jpg

Below is a series of beamshots taken with the above light. The first set is all McR19XR, the second is (2) McR19XR and (2) 19mm aspherics, and the last is all aspherics.

Exposures at ISO200 F4.2 progress from 1/15 to 1/30 and lastly 1/125 sec.

Lux readings @ 1m are 8900 for the quad-McR19XR, and 14,650 for the quad-aspheric.

I am quite happy with the results of these test units. I hit the focus right off the bat with little chromatic aberration. There are some rings in the spill of the apsherics that do not show up well in the pictures.

This particular test light is not the best example of what to expect in an MZ mod since the dies are all aligned yeilding a multiple square beam. With the MZ sinks the apsherics can be placed on dies that do not align, softening the square effect and washing out die lines.

How many to use is personal preference, you can see that the apsheric is a dominant portion of the beam. I'll probably go with 3 in the MZXR-7 and 2 in the MZXR-5 for my lights. The MZOX-4 has such a pretty beam I'm not sure I'd want to disrupt it with the single aspheric, but it is a possibility.

I think I can have these ready by the time the sinks are finished in about 4-5 days. There is no need to reserve them, I should have enough to go around for this MZ run. Depending on how may I have left after that, they may be available separately outside of this thread.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Wow Dennis, those look fantastic! Makes me want another sink build if I wasn't :broke: ;)

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Hi Dennis

So these will fit with the lens in place or does this mean no lens.

The beam looks awesome.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Dave,

The M6 lens is still used. The aspheric lens sits below the rim of the machined holder, and the total height of the holder is the same as the McR19XR. So when the M6 bezel/lens is tightened down, the aspheric holder will snug up with the reflectors.

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Thanks Dennis

If you would be so kind to give me a heads up before my sink is mailed I would like to get some of these sent with the sink.

Thanks

Dave

Re: Orders/sales for M-Zeppelin Surefire M6 LED heatsink kits and builds

Dave, no problem.

When the sinks are ready and I've prepped them into packaged kits, I'll contact everyone via PM for specifics for their order, or to confirm parts being shipped for orders already paid.

These can be added to any of the current orders, or purchased for MZ kits/lights already shipped.

Dennis, the aspheric holder and lens turned out fantastic.

I think you are right, 3x Aspherics looks like the way to go.
