David at Fenix-store.com has already modded it replacing the XLamp LED with the newer, more powerful XR-E LED:

The CR2 is probably the first production Cree, but not the first one using the new XR-E LED that's creating all the buzz here on CPF.

The CR2 Ion was the first production Cree XLamp light, but also initially used a Cree XR-E back in June of this year. I wouldn't qualify that to be production, but the first? Maybe.
