I have one. I doubt that the person actually has one and can't post the actual pic of the light in the box.

It's not a Kroma. There are no leds around the bezel. The DEF-1 is a 5 watter and is adjustable like the U2. TIR lens.

Those PKEF A, B, and C you see in the FS threads is basically a darpa/DEF-1 with leds.

So it's like a U2 but with a TIR optic instead of a reflector? Interesting. Must have been developed alongside the KROMA since the head looks very similar to the KROMA head.

Just did some searching of old threads on CPF and found some references to a DEF1 in this thread:

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/archive/index.php/t-97236.html

Some nice pics on that thread, including one where the DEF1 appears alongside a U2 and U2 Porcupine and the photo is named "3 selectors" so I am inferring that it is supposed to be a selectable output light just like the U2.

Nothing mentioned on the Surefire website or the 2006 Surefire catalog though, so was this light ever put into mass production and released to the general public?

The image on the ebay listing was taken from the DoD's website. It was for a survey to get input from the users.

DEF stands for DARPA Experimental Flashlight.

SureFire took part in a DARPA project with SAIC (designer of the TIR optics) and LumiLeds (Luxeon LEDs) to make a number of experimental flashlights for field-testing by the US Military. The project has long since finished.

PKEF stands for PK Experimental Flashlight and were SureFire's continuation of the work started by the project and the rare chance (offered by PK) to own a part of SureFire's R&D process that has led to the Kroma etc.

The photo was taken by Shelby Chan. You can see similar photos in his galleries on PK-E.

Toxenkill's quote deleted.

This is not an appropriate way to state you wish to sell a light. We have two areas to sell, either the marketplace [in which you'll need to register separately] or the custom/modified BST sub-forum.

Quite correct. Most of toxenkill's posts have been deleted, and PM sent to him.
