As I understand it, in other threads measurements have determined that the perceived dark ring in the P1D CE beam doesn't exist. The following links describe an optical illusion called the Craik-O'Brien-Cornsweet effect. I'm no scientist, but could this be an explanation for the discrepancy between what our eyes are seeing and measurements?
