I would like to know which one is better?

Q5: $7.44

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2394

350mA: 107~114lm
700mA: 171.2~182.4lm
1000mA: 214 ~ 228lm

Or

SSC P4: $4.69

http://www.kaidomain.com/WEBUI/ProductDetail.aspx?TranID=2955

SXOI and SWOH are sold out. This is for SXOH. Picture shows SX0I.

- Seoul Semiconductor's P4 U bin Emittor(W42182-USX0H)
- Color bin SX0, Vf: H = 3.00 to 3.25V.
- 91-118 lumen output at 350 mA, or 240 lumens at 1A
- Neutral white color tint, no color tint

----------------------------------------------------------------------

According to the specs, they look about the same. Are there any advantages to the Q5? If not, I'll just go with the SSC because its like $3 less. :p

Also what driver board would be recommended to drive these at 1amp on a lithium cell?

They each have their advantages and disadvantages, and I don't think output should be your deciding factor. Each emitter's specific emission pattern is something to consider.

What do you mean by "emission pattern"? Do you mean like beam characteristics or what? Also can someone point me to some good driver boards (must be less than 2 in diameter)

http://www.taskled.com/bflex.html. This board is pretty good if you want multilevels.

emmision pattern is the beam pattern without any optics or reflector. Page 8 shows the one for the Cree http://www.cree.com/products/pdf/XLamp7090XR-E.pdf

The Cree puts (relatively) more out frontways than the seoul, The seoul is spead over a wider angle. This can have the inverse result that with a reflector the Seould generates a tighter beam, because more light is aimed at the reflector surface and not straight out the glass at its original angle. You can still get tight spot cree lights, but they use deeper reflectors to catch more of the light.

The cree's I have all have little rings and patterns in the beams. Some more than others. The reflectors may have something to do with this but my Amilite T5 has a P4 and it is a pretty flawless beam that fades from hotspot to flood, nice and white like a snowball. ;)

The Cree XR-E has a narrower emitting pattern and usually forms a ring around the hotspot with most reflectors. The Seoul has a wider emitting pattern and does not have the ring (presuming the right focus and not a crappy reflector).

As for performance, the Cree XR-E Q5 is brighter then the Seoul P4 U-bin.

I already ordred the Q5 on a star and a couple driver boards. I also ordred a K2 100 lumen emitter just for the heck of it. It was $2.79 from KD.

Yes I have looked at all of them at KD and DX. 90% of the ones that DX has are out of stock or on back order... :sick2:
Bit of a problem, that. But I meant on CPF.

Let us know how it all goes.
