Since I was a tot, my dad always hoped I would get the ham radio bug. Though it never bit, my siblings and I grew up with antennas, hamfests, and the "nothing-is-broken-which-Daddy-can't-fix" mentality.

In that spirit, my dad is representing New York as one of the original thirteen colonies in the 13 Colonies Special Event going on through the sixth of July. I know there are some hams on this board, and thought it might be of some interest to them and the shortwave listeners out there.

For those who aren't familiar, it is an event where you try and work (meaning to have a communication with by radio) someone in each of the 13 states that were one of the original thirteen colonies.

Here is a link to all the information:

Here is a link to the New York info page where my dad is operating:

Good luck!

Enjoy, and Happy July Fourth, everybody!

The event is now over, but my dad logged a ton of contacts. He started receiving cards the first day it was possible for them to arrive, Tuesday, July sixth. If anyone on CPF talked to him, it'd be neat to share in this thread.

I guess I need to read CPF more frequently :ohgeez::oops:, While I don't have HF equipment, I could have forwarded this to my radio club's public information officer who would have then forwarded this to his email list.
