Anything that runs on 2xAA or 4xAA with a high mode that STAYS in high mode under stress? (to be firefighter's back up light)

My only ideas are:
Surefire E2LAA with VME head and Malkoff M31
Quark AA^2 Tactical

I was going to say LD40, but are you fine with a polymer body? The Sunwayman M30a is a good light, small hotspot if it helps penetrate smoke, and easy UI.

You can sleeve a 9p or G3 and run 2AA's in it with the M31 instead of the E2LAA with VME head and save money.

I don't think it should be too easy to activate, its pretty much exactly like the TK35's, and I haven't heard many complaints about that.

The official firefighter's lights are usually polymer.

The problem is not during a fire when hazardous gasses have already ignited. There are already approved lights in the truck.
The problem is when a firefighter is asked to "I think I smell gas in my basement. Can you check it out?" Use a non hazardous approved light and the chance of causing a gas explosion goes up dramatically.

All the lights mentioned so far are NOT approved for hazardous locations.
