I just wanted to say, these changes are TOTALLY worth it. I picked this light over two other AA zoomable lights I had for this mod because the circuit appears to put out more power baseline. (The AA zoomable Q5 Romisen was considerably dimmer than the Sipik). You just need a 14mm (maybe 16mm, can't remember) board XML T6, and some heat-paste compound to go underneath. Unsolder the Q3, then resolder the XML T6, and you're good to go. The 14500 choice was the standard Trust-fire 900 mAh one. I tested the total run time, and it's ~39 minutes. The XML emitter is brighter regardless of what battery is used, but the 14500 improves it further.
Upside: It is WAY WAY brighter, a night and day difference. The spot is larger when zoomed out completely.
Downside: Zoom is dramatically reduced due to the emitter size/angle. You would have to raise the emitter a tiny bit for it to be in perfect focus, but I didn't care. Even when in focus, does not have tight beam angle. The sides of the light that protect the lens block some of the light.
I wanted some "basic" focus for brightly illuminating objects within a 50 foot radius, and I didn't need the crazy zoom of the XRE or XPE. The XML simply gives you the most light in a small package at the same power.
