Does anyone make a li-ion battery for these? My battery is doing fine but I don't know how long it will last.

No, and it will likely never be available. The Ryobi HID basically duplicates the performance of the 990 but at 1/3 the cost and with convenient li-ion battery packs. If the company that makes the 990 ever did a redesign they'd probably build the handle to accept a current power tool battery pack by Dewalt or Milwaukee rather than design their own pack, compatible with their original design.
