I just received my first Arc AAA-p.
The reflector is polished near the outer edge.
The rest of it is not polished. It seems unfinished. Is this normal? Or did one get by final inspection?

I can't polish it with the bulb in place. Does anyone know how to remove the bulb so that I could polish the reflector?
Or should I send it back?
Any Ideas are much appreciated.
Thanks guys.

how "polished" is it?
they aren't mirror polished, it's more of a satan finish.

The outer edge is a nice satin finish. Smooth maybe half way down.
It looks rough the rest of the way, to the bottom of the bulb.

walt, you could try using some metal polish (autosol) to get it shiny. simply put a small blob on the reflector, then use a soft piece of tissue to polish it. simply get as much tissue into the reflector as possible so it'll reach into all the nook and crannies, then just twist it around as long as you like. you don't have to worry about the LED bulb. just wash off the residue when you're done /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello balticvid.

The reflector on the Arc-AAA series is not polished. It is a machined surface with an RMS of about 20 or better.

If the unit is not meeting your satisfaction in any way, you may return it within the 30-day satisfaction evaluation period.

the arc AAA is advertised as waterproof to 50ft, which is approximately 15 metres, so water won't affect it. the electronics are epoxed as well, so you can actually just wash the head when its detatched from the body tube. i've done it before with no ill effects. just make sure the foam cushion dries out properly before reinstalling the head or the battery might rust and leak /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just checked my two CPF Arcs and my Arc PE (because all three just happened to be handy), and they all have a satin finish to their reflectors. I knew that beforehand, but better safe than sorry.

That satin (or satan or saten /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif) finish is normal, and does not in any way indicate a problem with the flashlight.

Well

I was in touch with Peter. He said to send it back.
I told him that I scratched it. I'm not looking for a replacement. Just to polish it a little more.

I also ordered another AAA cpf.
I'm going away for Thanksgiving and I need another Christmas present.

Hi Walt,

Other CPF members have mentioned using a small drinking straw to keep the polish off of the led when refinishing the reflector with polish. I'm guessing that they found the right diameter soda straw then cut it just long enough to go over the LED and not get in the way of the polishing process.

That sounds good.....Do they make straws that small any more?
I'll keep my eyes open.

I just received my arc AAA in the mail today(the CPF version), and as a newbie to the whole flashlight area, I must say there is a certain satisfaction to having such a wonderful looking beam attached to my keychain. Perfect circular broad beam with a small bright center for extra light. Excellent construction, durability... Really pleased with my purchase.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I just got back
from visiting family and found a NEW AAA-P waiting for me.

Yep...I ruined it, and they replaced it. Damn nice of them.
Satisfaction guarantees don't get any better than that.

Thank you Merri and Peter Gransee.

Walt
