I have has one of these for a few years now. The barrel, the dark gray color, has become very sticky. I suspect the plastic is breaking down. I also had the same problem with the plastic grip on one of my cameras. The plastic is not a hard plastic, it is somewhat soft.

Anyone else have this problem?
Can anything be done to correct this?

My only thought would be to apply something over it, varnish, peel and stick shelf paper, etc. Of course you could also try using a razor blade to remove the old stuff first, and then apply new rubber (found in sheets at most hardware stores) with rubber cement.

I have tried to clean it with various over the counter products, including windex, fantastic, formula 409 etc... I even tried armor all, car wax. every thing seemed to help, but nothing eliminated the problem. This is not a real big deal. ( it is on my camera )

I'll pick up some colorful DUCT tape..

one of those sayings comes to mind

If it doesn't move, and it should - WD-40
If it moves, and it shouldn't - DUCT tape

Depending on the diameter of the light, you may be able to use bicycle tubing.

Or perhaps large diameter heatshrink.

Obviously you would lose the "ridges" if that is important.
