hi all,

is anyone aware of any comparison reviews of dynamo-powered led flashlights?

the best one i could find on the web was a Nicco Dynamo MT-023 water resistant 5 led dynamo flashlight that includes a 4.5/6v output jack.

here's a link with some specs:

[actual url: http://www.quality-items-flashlights.com/dynamo-flashlight-cell-charger.htm]

[google cache: http://tinyurl.com/4qw8r]

it uses Nichia InGaN Ultra Bright 15,000 mcd LEDs. can anyone comment on the quality of these LEDs?

i just ordered it from modernoutpost.com to check it out.

here's a review:

http://flashlightreviews.com/reviews/dynamo_mt-023.htm

the review says it wasn't designed to allow for user replacement of the NiMH batteries. i hope i can open the unit without breaking it to do this.

i'd like to see a "self-powered" flashlights forum. anyone else think this would be useful?

please post to this thread any dynamo-powered led flashlight recommendations.

thanks,
david

I don't know if it's the best, but I got a 'Techeffects Illuminator" dynamo powered light for Christmas. It's got 3 5MM leds and will light either 1 or 3 of them. It's imported by mfagifts.com as "The illuminator". The "techeffects" appears to be a Krohl's trademark.

1 minute of cranking gives 60 minutes of single led light. It seems to work fine and feels good in the hand. If I ran out of batteries, I'd be happy to have this light in the glovebox.

It's a handful, at a little over 5 inches long and two inches tall but fits my hand comfortably. It weighs in at 6.2 onces. The body is plastic. The black inserts appear to be rubber.

gadget_lover, I have the same one you do, but it's under the Durapro label. I bought mine last month at Lowe's. Cool looking flashlight, though a bit bulky.

As a matter of fact, Quickbeam has a review of the same light HERE.

No no no no! Yours is different! Mine does not have a label on the body and yours does!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif We used to call these "paste and play" style devices. The manufacturer (usually far east) sells to enyone with no labeling. The reseller slaps a label on it and "poof!" it's now a Durapro.

I searched all over quickbeams sight, looking for a picture of it. The model number "ET-0100" is the same as listed on the other importer's web page, so that's probably the designation given by the maker.

Mine's been running about an hour so far. I'll have to throw it on a light meter to see if it drops significantly.
