I have seen a few posts on replacing the LED in the Dorcy AAA lights with other colors. Would a yellow or red LED be a direct replacement or would the lower voltage cause a problem with the regulation circuit? I haven't taken one apart yet but if these colors won't work I'll stick with the stock LED.

Hi, PJ

AFAIK, red and yellow LED's like to see between 2.1 and 2.5 volts - I believe the driver circuit for the white LED in the Dorcy AAA (which delivers over 3 volts) will quickly burn out a red or yellow LED. A blue or green might work, tho.

Red or yellow will work, just the resistor needs to be made larger, HOWEVER, I have a dorcy AAA modded with a sample I got (1/2W) 150mA, I didnt need to change anything. Also, I have done the same mod but with a lumileds super flux amber (75mA) this worked very well also (no resistor change). Only problem with this option os the optics. The AAA with the 1/2W has a cracked faren optic, but still works OK.
