I am looking for a LOW power visible laser.
Here are the specs....
1.) It should be able to project a visible spot no larger than 0.020 inches (0.5 mm) in diameter at a distance of 1.5 inches (38 mm).
2.) The beam needs to be parallel (the beam spot diameter can't vary by more than +/- 25%) for a distance of about 0.5 inches (13 mm).
3.) Cheaper is better.
4.) The longer the battery life the better.

I am assuming that I need a laser here. Is it possible to highly collimate an LED for such a purpose?
Any (and all) help will be appreciated!---Marc

The problem with using a Diode Laser is that the actual die inside a Diode Laser is not square, but rect. I do not think you can focus it that fine

I would suggest using a very small HeNe tube and power supply; HeNe still have better converagance than Diode Lasers
