But what do you want to achieve? If you get 0.5W off a single AAA, that's already not bad and close to the maximum you can realisticly get.

I don't think it's being driven at .5W; I think the led is just rated at .5W.

what's the fun of buying a flashlight and leaving it as it is if there's a possibility for improvement ? i thought modding is what everyone did in CPF

I think this light is perfect as it is. I mean, its almost as bright as an Inova X5 right? and it only needs one AAA battery too. Perhaps you were thinking about the lambda mini drop ins? Actually those would be nice...
