For those of you following the "bargain cell phone plan" threads recently, I can report that Virgin Mobile has recently started charging sales tax in North Carolina, and I assume in other states as well. This applies to buying additional minutes. I used to get $20 worth of minutes for $20 with no sales taxes or fees of any kind. Now it costs $21.40 due to NC State sales tax of $1.40. I don't think this represents higher pricing for VM, but just a change in their tax collecting status. I assume this also applies to the purchase of phones and accessories from their website.
I still think they are the lowest cost option for light users, but I wanted to pass this info along.
