All Surefire and Streamlight LEDs are Lumileds Luxeons (http://www.lumileds.com/). Most high intensity 5mm LEDs are made by Nichia, who recently also released high intensity LEDs similar to Luxeons under the brand name Jupiter.

More interesting is how the the Luxeon vary in color and output. See the color chart:

The Lux3 that is in my PM6 HA 3W looks like the color is between the XO/YA corner on the chart. Mostly white, a hint of purple that makes it look very bright.
Most of the 1watt and 3watt you see now are Lumiled Luxeon. The Jupiter are just starting to creep onto the scene.
