This may have been covered before but I'll ask anyway.
On the back of this package it says that the light lasts
7 hours on "high" setting leading you to believe that
it has 2 or multiple settings. Yet no where does it
state this. It does state that it's regulated but nothing
about power stages.

So, is this a multi stage light, or is this just a mistake?
Still not a bad looking light (especially in black) for $9.99.

Thanks

I wondered about that as well but the light seems to be just single stage. Makes me think we know what "next year's" model will have though <grin>.

Seems like they may have just used the same text from their 2 stage headlamp. It last 7 hours on "High."

Mykall,

I also have the River Rock .5W 2aaa. Because the light is claimed to be regulated; I think that the 2 stages are 1) during regulation 2) after it drops out of regulation but still makes some light.

I liked my first RR .5w 2AAA light so well, I went back to Target and bought a second one in silver. An excellent bargain for $9.99.

it's not a cut and paste... I have both boxes and while they are similar, they are not identical:

RR Headlamp: 'Run Time - 25 hours on Low Beam
7 hours on High Beam'

RR .5w Flashlight: 'Run Time - 7 hours on High Beam'

Since the packaging and light is made in China, they probably have to cut corners on translation/packaging costs, so they just threw in the 'on High Beam' instead of just saying the flashlight has a run time of 7 hours.

So what is the verdict? Better or worse than the plastic
innovas which seem to have a rather marginal approval
rating here on CPF?

What exactly is RR? Is it a Target brand like "Greatland" is/was?
Or is it some co that manufactures these lights in China? Or is
it a Chinese co??

Thanks

From what I assume, River Rock is a US Import company based in Texas that buys Nuwai lights from China and has them stamped with the "River Rock" name, and distributes them through Target Stores.

They are identical to the Nuwai lights in every way.

I have the 2AAA, 2AA, and the 2AAA RR headlamp. All are excellent values for the money. While they're not a Surefire; they cost a LOT less than that Cadillac brand.

Actually there is at least one difference. I have both the Nuwai 2AAA .5w and the River Rock 2AAA .5w and the tail caps are a little different on my specimens. It's not a major or functional difference, but quite obvious when the lights are standing bezel down on a table. I didn't find a preference for one end cap or the other. They're just different. That was the only external difference I could discern. I've been EDCing one of the Nuwai since last January and like it quite a lot.

So is the 2aaa generally preferred over the 2aa? I forget which
one I looked at the other day but I'll stop by again after work.

2AAA vs 2AA:
I have both. Just let me comment that I have 4 2AAA and one 2AA that I would have returned 'cept my 13 yr old had dibs on it.

Also got:
5 headlights - one for every family member.
1 2C - same light as the 2AA but longer duration.
2 4AA lamps - may get another after Flashlight reviews gave it 4-1/2 stars.

The 2AA is a can't go wrong deal - $10 and great throw and illumination with lots of spill. The 2AA/2C is an acquired taste - light is uniform, good throw, (visible for almost 100 yards in backyard in dark), no spill, very defined/directional, like others have said - looks like the moon and about 3' diam at 12'.

I find I now cannot get along with the RR 2AAA - I carry it constantly !!!???
newbie flashaholic - symptoms started shortly after I discovered CPF

Ok, looked at them again. The 2AA is rather large and
cumbersome for a 2aa. It was the 2AAA that I was looking
at the other day and I picked it up today. At least twice
as bright as PT 'tude or Gerber Infinity. Out throws both
as well.

Very nice for $10. Makes me wonder if they could have
Lux'ed these for about $12-13. Also noticed that the
tailcap lube appears to be some light oil that is not
really the right viscosity. You can hear the friction
when unscrewing it. Cleaned with denatured alchohol
and lubed w/ RS lube gel. Now it's quieter as well.

Picked up the 2AA and 2AAA recently.

I like the 2AA, though it's too much of a spot for some folks.

However, the 2AAA is clearly the best deal of all the new lights at "Tarjay."

Yup,

Took mine to the store with me when it got dark. I can see
why some are EDC'n this light. Can't argue with the clip either
as that is certainly something they could have just decided to
leave off.

Really it's almost the same size as a ball-pt pen. Handles
well too.

I might just get another one. It'll have to be from another bull's eye
though, because this was the last one on the shelf.

I got the Rock River 2AAA light and it's a nice bright light for the money.

I seen the Inova 2AAA light for $12.99 and though about buying it. Does anybody have a review on it? How does it compare to the Rock River 2AAA light?

To avoid confusion... the name on the lights is River Rock (not Rock River).

I own both. In terms of light performance and runtime they are very similar. The biggest difference IMO is the switch.

The RR 2xAAA has a "tactical" switch that you press on or twist to have constant on. You can also back it off for a "lock out" mode so you don't accidentally waste battery life.

The Inova 2xAAA has a raised, rubber covered, clickie with no way to lock it out. The switch takes a very light touch so odds are good that it could get turned on in a pocket or backpack.

I EDC the RR 2xAAA where the ability to lock out the switch is a definite advantage. The Inova 2xAAA is my new bedside light where the square form factor prevents it from rolling away if I fumble for it in the dark. I know a lot of people look down on the square form factor but actually I like it. Now if only they'd protect the switch better.

Ok Zspec,

But how about performance between these two? Do you own the
1aaa Innova? I'm looking for some info on that as well since I couldn't
get it out of its package to test it.
