18 year olds at a nightclub deserve a 6D mag and a severe THUMP:twak:...
Interestingly, I thought the 5D was unwieldy in any sort of confrontation. Heavy, slow, and unbalanced when you're holding it in any position where you can operate the switch at the same time.

Fortunately I was in a position to dictate my gear so I carried a dimmer, but much easier to handle 3D. Only really had to use it once, when some drunken idjit decided to take a swing at one of the girls working the front door. :shakehead

2-3 c/d is good for 5761, 1185 or 64623. They have less momentum to overcome. Plus a 3c or d is just about the right length to jam under someone's chin, and or choke them with. As for the beatings, gotta be careful about that. Make sure they're the kind that's too stupid to know their rights, or beat them until they are. As for the 5-6c/d's and such I'd try to go low like the knees or so. where theres less peripheral vision/reaction time. Then once they're down, go ahead and decapitate them highlander style... :crackup:lol

Cost..lets keep it kinda cheap
runtime..not a concern
dependablity a must
I'm thinking something AA but bright with a tight hot spot, spill not needed
Gunner that DX light looks neat, any real reviews yet?

Garrity made a 3xAAA with a spotlight beam and zero spill there for awhile, but it wasn't nowhere near what you would need bright wise.

Ahhh found it and a beam profile.

My best buddy works part time at club as a bartender. Sometime Last yeas I gave him a Dexlight X1 and he was very happy to use that at the club. He had the brightest flashlight in there for awhile. Then the bouncers and security guards also wanted one and it started some sort of arms race. Then last Christmas I gave him my Lumapower MRV. He brought that light to the club and then told me how he had the brightest flashlight in there. He uses it to shine people in the eyes when they start fighting and according to him it is very effective.
Then later on I let him borrow my a trippe Seoul, wich he called the Terminator for it's brightness (he doesn't know any better). Later he told me how two guys started fighting right in fron of the bar and he used to it blast them with it. He said that they quickly stopped and that later on a bystander told him "could you please not use that light again because it blinded me".
Accordin to him the Lumapower is the favorite light among the employees in there. Also one of the security guard kept bugging him to sell him the Dexlight wich he finally did.
Maybe you should buy one good light light and use it at the club and see what the reaction among the employees is. Hopefully it might start an arms race among them like the one at my buddies club.
Otherwise a decent light might cost around $25 for a river rock or something like those new Nuwais coming out.

I'm trying to locate a flashlight that is bright with a tight focus for singling out someone in a crowd. relativlely inexpensive as cause about ten will need to be purchased. it will also hopefully run on AA or AAA batteries. Single mode only please.

For a 1xAA, I'd suggest you get a Romisen RC-G2. It's in your price range. The problem with 1xAA lights are (a) runtimes aren't the greatest and (b) I'd expect that your employees will lose them because they are so small. So, stock up on batteries and get some bright colored lanyards if you go with this form factor.

For a 2xAA, someone suggested the RC-N3. I'd second the motion, although it's above your price range. You could carry it by sticking it in your jeans' back pocket (head up), but I'd recommend that you get a holster.

I have both of these lights. They can both take a beating and keep on ticking.

Other suggestions:

If your going to get flashlights for a club dont go cheap, they will take a beating. I work security in a club that caters to the 18+ crowd. One of the things I have noticed about young people aged 18 to 21 is when they fight they generally prefer to fight on the ground where the light (even if in a pocket or holster) can take quite a beating. Get something with a good warranty like Pelican, Streamlight or Surefire. If your giving these lights to bartenders you may want to go with a light that uses 2x 123 lithium cells for their extended battery life. I highly dought bartenders and porters will remember to change out batteries until they need the light and the batteries are dead. If you look around Surefire G2's can be found for roughly $30 each with an extra set of batteries included. If you buy 10 or more you may get an even better price. There are places where you can buy CR 123 primary cells for $1 a piece. Get a box of 50 cells and you will be set for a few years depending on how much you use the lights. Getting a light that uses an LED bulb would also be a good idea for security, you dont want to have to worry about the bulb burning out or getting broken if it gets dropped. Dont go cheap, you will end up spending more replacing broken lights than you will on one good one, clubs make thousands of dollars a night, they can afford to spend a few hundred on 10 flashlights. Remember this, to security a flashlight can save your life, especially when the power goes out.
I am in the same boat as you, I just hired 4 new guys for my security crew and need to get them so new lights since we are not allowed to carry anything bigger than a 2 D cell light as someone may consider is to be a weapon. Right now the Surefire G2Led and the Pelican PM6 3330 are at the top of my list.

I think people are really underselling the Maglites here. A Maglite 2C or 2D equipped with the MagLED replacement bulb will have very tight focus, be pretty tough, and use common, cheap batteries. This is the one area where Maglites really "shine" due to their deep smooth reflectors. Let's not forget that they are reasonably cheap-- figure about $15-20 for the Mag and another $15 for the replacement bulb (which should never burn out, btw).

A 2C would do well.
As far as lithiums, well I've stated my feelings on them. It would also suck to have one light that's been sitting around awhile vent in a crowded club and have patrons inhale the fumes or worse and wind up having another Great White incident.

Make sure if you go the lithium route, that your staff is keen on how batteries shouldn't be mix-matched, etc.

The Romisen RC-G2 is cheap but cannot be used defensively as it is so small. The RC-N3 is more expensive but may be worth it.
Not much can beat Mags for their "fear factor" and genuine self-defence attributes.

I'm not looking for anything that they can use defensively/offensively. The bartenders ,dj,lightguy, and beer tub girl are at fixed positions. I have an L2D that I think is great in size and in batt's that it uses. If it were only single mode and cheaper in order to outfit everybody with one.

Then the RC-N3 might work.

2 AA, single mode, forward clickie.

Though it can be brighter if they used the Q5 bin.

Oh, if you want to go that route, easy decision.
Get the Coleman 2xAA Max for 25.00 a pop at Wal-Mart.
Cree-XRE, single-mode, reverse clickie, lanyard hole.

Easily bright enough. It hangs with my Incan Surefire G2 in the backyard. Color rendition is just different of course.

I am assuming you're stateside here..

I'll say it again, a Streamlight ProPolymer 2AA for $17.95. Can be in yellow or black. I can think of no better for what you seek. My .02 FWIW

RWT1405 I'm looking for someplace local that carries that light so that i can evaluate it.
Alot of the DX lights seem like they might work but shipping back and forth for warranty issues would suck. not saying anything about DX lights, just want to keep it as local as possible should the need arise.
Lit Up itried looking at Walmart for some AA lights that would work. The rayovac 2AA was dimm.the only Coleman I saw was the 2 CR2 light.which i kept for myself.

I understand what you're saying. I would think that there are Fire, EMS, Police stores in your area and they would, more then likely, be carrying Streamlight (and other such) lights there. Most (if not all) of the ones in my area DO carry the 2AA ProPolymer and I would expect yours to do the same. Hope this helps. My .02 FWIW

Keep an eye out, the local store here rarely gets anything flashlight-wise and last weekend they got in the entire Max line.

Steamlight Pro polymer 4AA 1 watt Luxeon at around $25 would be my pick. Good bright narrow beam with decent spill, can fit in a back pocket, rugged, beer proof, long run times, would get someones attention across a room.

SL pro polys are also popular among mechanics, and sometimes fishermen. Try your local bait and tackle, also outdoor stores tend to have decent lights. Or you can drive by the dealerships on friday (payday) and see if you can find the tool truck around. They've got all sorts of cool stuff. Knives, wool socks, lights, heck even tools.

Jetbeam line of lights should also be considered. Small runs on AA and could be useful for your needs. Look it up....
