A bit mental?

Hi all. I have recently purchased my first PROPER flashlight - it is a Nitecore TM 26 (4000 lumens), and I have to admit, I've become a bit of a flashaholic.

This isn't normal behaviour - after all it's just a light, but I love it. I'm even taking it with me during daylight hours 'just in case'.

Is there something wrong with me?

yes, you got infected with flashaholism, we all here suffer from it, some less some more. but do not worry, it is not lethal, just very damaging to your bank account.

You bought yourself a hell of a first proper flashlight, congrats and enjoy. You've picked a great time to catch the disease with emitters like the XHP70 about to breakout. I read someone on another forum modded a 3 LED light very similar in size to the TM26 with XHP70's and got 14,000 lumens OTF. Although the runtime would be short for a small light producing that much power and heat, oohhh what a rush it would be for your eyes. You can wipe the drool coming out of the side of your mouth now. LOL

Hi hajworthj,

:welcome: Well, you're off to a good start. Congratulations! The TM26 is a good starting point.

No, don't worry... What you're exhibiting is definitely normal behaviour.
Erm, DSM-5 makes absolutely no mention of Flashaholism as a mental disorder. :tinfoil:

Now, with that out of the way, why don't you have a look at the TM36?

You're talking to your flashaholic support group right now. Daylight carry is perfectly normal. I'm currently carrying 6 lights with 5 more sitting next to the keyboard... just in case. :)

Where to go now:
Pick out your first P60 host.
Pick out your first light from Fenix, Zebralight, Surefire, Eagletac, Nitecore, Sunwayman, Armytek, then stop and take stock of what you've got.
Pick out your first Vinh light. (V54 rules!)
Gotta get an HID light.
Gotta get a head lamp.
Gotta get an LRI Photon of some type, a Pak-lite 9v...

It will never end. I apologize to your wallet. I quit carrying one because there's no sense in having an empty wallet. :)

+1 to the p60 host being the next step. These host alone can drive one to bankruptcy but at least you wont worry when the electric company cuts off the power. :)

Yeah, but what about Nitecore, Elzetta, Oveready, Maratac, Klarus, M*glite customs, titanium fetish, copper fetish, OMG. I need to stop now. Don't want to scare OP away.

I guess I shouldn't say Malkoff, Nailbender, or Milkyspit either. Bad, bad vampire. Naughty, naughty vampire. Tempting the new user. Shame on me.

I suppose for punishment, you should.... SEND ME FLASHLIGHTS AND MAKE ME POST ABOUT THEM.

Also,

There is nothing wrong with you. You are ok/fine.

Another tip besides the excellent feedback you have already received:

Please ask your family members to not offer you feedback around their concerns for your flashaholism. Because, family members cannot therapize each other.

Only feedback from your peers can be of any value. Please ask your family members to attend Flashanon meetings. There, they can learn how to achieve serenity, whether the flashaholic is activly flashlighting or not.

I am not a flashaholic. I just have 250 lights just in case.. ;-)

Yeah, but what are they? I've got 500 LED christmas lights in a box. :)

Once you start realizing eveything that has a light on it... It's like how I use the LED clock on my oven as a night light when getting a glass of water in the kitchen. Technically, each segment of the digital display is a light that can be on or off. My oven's LED high mode is when I set the timer (but don't start it) to all 8's. Low mode is when the timer is set to all 1. The beautiful part is that when in clock mode, it is naturally brighter towards an hour after midnight. After that, it automatically goes to low mode at 1am.

Yep, that's right. I actually use my oven as a LED light. :)
