Very nice! I have most of the same. You will definitely enjoy the HD xml as well:thumbsup:

I read this post earlier, but the words didn't seem to click in my brain. I was just informed of this by INFRNL, and for some applications, it could be the bee's knees.
Guys, the E2 Super looks tempting!

Ok, who is going to get one first to give us some input? I'm not a fan of CW so I'd need to know how the tint is first off...haha If it's anything like the M61HOT or M91T, I might have to pass. I'm thinking the Super Scout "T" would be the one to go with but both sound appealing. When they become available, everyone needs to order to provide us with some real world info:D

I have to stay away from here...I'll have one of most everything if i continue to hang out with you guys:shakehead

ok, where is ETC or is he mainly in the HD thread. I got one for him using his 3x18650 on a WCv6.

I got approx 2hrs on the HD and 1.25 hrs on Super running 2x 18650 Protected 3500mah panasonic GA's or even LG MJ11's(protected as well) till it shut off. WCv6 I am currently finishing 2x GA's(protected) I got kind of a mixed bag cause the Wc is acting differently. I believe i got around 2 hrs of near max brightness. i am at 3.25hrs and still have useable light to navigate around. getting ready for bed (should have went a long time ago). Using 3x18650 should provide very good results.

I only got 55mins (till it shut off)on 2x 18500 1500mah aw's (protected), and 1hr 25mins(till it shut off) using my new panasonic 2000mah(protected) cells (thinking these panasonics aren't all that great) Have some keeppower 1700mah 18500's coming as well but expect runtime to be somewhere in between.

When I state that the light shut off; those runs it had plenty of light and just shut off. I do not know why this run with the 18650's is behaving differently (they are brand new and shut off during the runs on HD & HD super)

Does everyone here use the tool? They were oos when i placed my order. I found the right pliers or a special tool I already have works well enough for me. I could probably also use my snap ring pliers with the right tips.
I used needlenose pliers for a long time, but was never really happy with how much I would slip or with how little actually tightening I could do; since I'm heavily invested into my Malkoff collection I decided to spend the money to get the wrench - and I've been very happy with it.

Great collection! First rate stuff. I take it you're not a fan of the MD3, then? I'm not either. I've come close to buying one on a couple of occasions, but I don't find the battery options appealing. It makes little sense to burn primaries when you've got the option of 18mm lithium ions, but the 2 x 18500 format provides so little run time. The MD4 is only a bit longer but a pair of 18650's open up a whole new world of run time. On another note, I'm interested to hear you compare the CRI of the Nichia 219B and that of the Wildcat V6 in neutral.

ARGH! I really want a Malkoff MDC that runs on either 1 x CR123 or 1 x AA, but I just can't live with the beam tint. I have an M61 in 6200K, but it is angry blue to my eyes and I very seldom use it. It appears Gene does not offer a NW variant. I know he's got an neutral MDC that runs on one 16650, but I'm trying to fill a particular niche in my collection. If the power were to go out for an extended period, I'd need a low powered device that's easy on batteries. I've considered the Elzetta Alpha, but the Malkoff has such a great pocket clip and I dislike Elzetta's speed clip. Frustrated. :banghead:

You can make the MDs quite a bit shorter when you use a Surefire Z41 instead of the original tailcap. The Oveready Custom Knurled Aluminum TailCap should also work. You loose the tailstanding ability, though.

I've got an MDC 123a Nichia. It's a good light, lovely tint and nice beam. Low is great for midnight pee breaks and high lights up a small garden.

Edit.

Gotta say would be temped to run it in 1XAA during a blackout inside the house.

The Malkoff tailcaps don't seem to be very popular on this forum, but I like them. I dig the shrouded soft press McClicky set up. Even have a couple of spare sets of McClicky switch guts in case I ever need to replace them. I would like to have a spare Z41 or two for the old 6p platform, but I think the Surfire tailcaps look a bit out of sorts on the Malkoff bodies.

I agree with what you said about the MD3 with the M91, but I don't think that flashlight offers any significant advantage over any one of the many 2 x 123a or 1 x 18650 lights available today. Get the MD2 and the MD4, throw in a bored out Elzetta or two, bada boom bada bing. Cheeseburger in paradise.

+1 on the wrench. Well worth the extra coin.

#1 is on back order and may/may not be available again,
#3 only 6 left then may/may not be available again. (Limited to Primaries only, unless head is moved to a different body)

Also I do not know how these do on runtime, but nichia typically is less efficient and may not fit the easy on batteries, idk

The output is typically lower than comparable white/cool tint LEDs to achieve the same run time category.

For example, the M61LL runs for 10 hours at 100 lumens.

By comparison, the Malkoff Devices M61LL 219B V2 will run for 10 hours at 65 lumens.

So yes, less efficient, but you see a drop in comparable lumen output while the run times remain consistent and easy on the batteries.

(My bold above)

I'm in the same boat, for the CR123 ver, single output.

I like the concept of the MDC enough that I keep going back planning an order of the MDC HA SHO, to remember its available only in CW.

I'm also not looking for multimode. For that I *had* a PK PR-1, which is a very clever design with a proud non-tail-standing switch, that operates at what I'd describe as medium-light press, with fairly long throw. It also had a well balanced four mode UI that IIRC topped at 400 lm. My particular specimen had a CW tint a NW aficionado could love (I did). Your tint lottery results may vary.

Speaking of tail-standing switches and going back to the HD XML, my right thumb is permanently injured so to speak, and does not work well with the Malkoff switch. There is a Z41/McClicky installed at the moment, with an Oveready Z44/hard press incoming.

For my needs I'm very happy with the Z41 style switch, even with the forward center of balance on the HD XML. I'm usually up four hours before sunrise at this time of year, and have been using the HD for a bit each morning. As has been said in this discussion, its versatility goes well beyond its throwing ability.
