I assume you mean an MD2 with an M61? You can do it, but it runs really hot with a minimal increase in output. I find that the M61 is at home near 4 volts.
I'm running 2x18350 in my MD2 with m61 and m61T, dont really need the runtime of 18650 but it does get very warm, if you leave tailstanding it will get too hot to touch. However if i keep hold of it my hands heatsinking it, then while its still quite warm its not unbearable at current nighttime ambient temps (15-18 C).

hi is the driver the same in all of Malkoff drop in's?.
I think Nichia M61 219B V3 single mode is a Buck driver right? - is this a new or an old buck updated driver or was there something else before this?. any reason for Malkoff not to update?

I have read about malkoff using old tech electronics which could do with some updating.
I know the Malkoff is a reliable light, but is the driver reliable in 2019 too?.

kind thanks.

Really? Well might have to throw my 91 in there and see how she works as an EDC for me now that it's getting dark by 6😞

Question? Other then the bezel removal tool from Malkoff anybody have luck removing there MDC bezel. I got a SS one on the way and figured I'd give it a shot before getting that tool that I will probably only use once.

I've had luck removing the bezel ring by just using the back of a bic pen. It's not easy but has worked and hasn't marred the finish of the bezel rings.

is the 219B v3 drop in efficient compared to if a 219C was in the drop in ?
contemplating if I should use a 219B V3 or wait for something new in a spare new MD2 host.
thanks.

So I just tried my M361 219b v3 dropin with the H/L ring, the L mode only gives one additional output, about .5 lumens I reckon, which is nice, but it doesn't do the 6 mode easter-egg that has apparently occured with other M361s. Anyone else have this experience? I actually quite like that, but come to think of it I don't know that I tried turning it to L while at each individual output level.

I just purchased the M361 219b v3 and also found it does not work 100% with the high/low ring. In my case, with the bezel loosened it will cycle to the highest output but gets stuck there until the bezel is tightened. My old M361 works perfectly with the ring.

The only thing that can go wrong with your setup is the tiny button that pokes through the ring. At the back is the resistor mounted on a leaf spring.
I'd suggest that you take the ring out and give it a good clean with Isopropyl Alcohol, also clean the base of the drop in where it contacts the ring and make sure it seats properly into the rebate in the ring. When you reassemble make sure the ring is tightened up well. Straight out of Malkoff these are very tight indeed.
Anyway, give that a go and see what happens.

Ya it's pretty common for the hi/lo ring not to work with the m361. If it does you just got lucky.

Sorry, I didn't spot it was an M361 Nichia.
Yup, TG's correct - Some work with the ring and some don'r.
That'll teach me to do CPF while I'm brewing.

MD2 with SF tailcap, M361 219b v3 drop-in, UCL glass lens, Orbtronic 18650 3500mAh protected cell, Dark Sucks clip, Lumens Factory lanyard ring with DIY finger lanyard. A really versatile torch!
