1000 watt torch, power equal to car headlight. 3 LED's, nice design, silvery finish. Will also set you back $ 1000.00. The thing apparently gets hot, head incorporates fins, acting as heatsink. And I thought that the Wiseled Tactical ($599.00) was cutting edge......

3x 300W leds? riiight...

Those must be extremely inefficient LEDs to require 1000w to be only as bright as a 45w incandescent car headlight.

He copied the information wrong, it's not 1000 watts but 1000 lumens. The particular light is ugly and has 3 high-power low-efficient Osram LEDs (the one with multiple dies) inside. Price is set at 1000 USD. I can not remember the manufacturer.

EDIT : I think it's from FoxFury, anouncement at http://flashlightnews.org/story493.shtml and manufacturer website at http://www.foxfury.com/products/mf_1000_series/tacfire.htm . It is featured in the February 2007 Issue of Popular Science.

I saw it in the latest issue of Popular Science magazine but did not have time to read about it further.

Nor the FoxFury nor the Wiseled 1000 lumen flashlight are cutting edge. They are quite inefficient since the Cree EZ1000 chip is released. I think Elektrolumens also makes a custom 1000 lumen flashlight featuring the Cree LEDs. Much higher efficiency there! Now THAT is cutting edge at the moment :)
