1000mA at 8.4V...?

I am trying to make my own 6P drop in, with max efficiency, throw and Lumen output as high priorities.

Heres the reflector:

I'm thinking about this driver...

Its one of the few I have found that will drive the Q5 near 1A using a pair of 3.7V RCR123s.

Does anyone have first hand experience with this driver?
How difficult is it to re-solder and configure it for 950mA?
Can it drive currents higher than that?

Will these drivers with 8.4Volts from 2xRCR123?

This is a DX6090 with a Q5, as far as I can tell.

Theres' a pretty extensive thread about it, can't find it at the moment. You can simply wire an exteranl resistor in parallel with one of the existing ones to increase the drive current, which isn't dififcult. that one is also the most efficient cheap driver you'll find for running LEDs off of Multi LiIon input.

I suspect that this is the same driver being used in the DX $13 Q5 P60 Drop-in. , which also goes up to 18V. If I were you, I'd just buy one of those, and replace the textured reflector with the smooth reflector. The thread are likely the same.

Those are Linear Regulators, which means that current in = current out, and the difference between input voltage and output voltage is wasted as heat. So Driving this with 2xRCR123, as opposed to 1x18650, you'll get no more output, and twice as much waste. Not to mention you'd have less energy to start with.
