I am looking for a fast 1-2hr AA battery charger and some 2700-2900mAh batteries. I live in the UK. Whats the best value one available at the moment?I was looking at some vapextech 2900mAh ones , anything better available?
thanks

Hi..... ahem...

:welcome:

Have you any particular reason that they must be maximum capacity cells? Depending on the application, some lower capacity cells with LSD [low self discharge] technology will actually outperform the high capacity cells. Ask yourself if you are always going to use the cells fresh off the charger, or if they might sit for a few days, or weeks, or possibly a few months un-used sometimes.

I don't have any recommendations on WHERE to get things over there... But I am trying to help you figure out what might serve you better.

Hello engltayl, Welcome to CPF.

You will see that vapextech 2500 had 2195 mAh so don't expect the manufacturers word for the capacity.

As mdocod said LSD cells are the way to go BUT if you really want high performance cells, go for MAHA Powerex 2700, if you want a highly recommended charger MAHA Powerex C-9000 is the charger for You.

Both available here
Off course you can get cheaper cells and chargers anywhere, a lot of us here ended up with LSD cells and C-9000 at the end with a lot of cheap chargers and cells everywhere.

Edit: UK distributor

Hello Folks:wave:

I've just received a LaCrosse BC900 today and used it to test some cheap Fujicell branded 2700 AAs I got from ebay recently.

The results were variable, non of them were near the claimed capacity, the readings were 2280, 2220, 2500, 2160, the cells also seem to be slightly too large in diameter, I had trouble squeezing them into a torch.

I wouldn't reccommend getting any Fujicell branded batteries as they seem to be poorly made.:shakehead

I also have some Sony branded 2000mah low self discharge AAs which I got these from ebay a few months ago for a good price and they work well in my digital camera. I'm going to test these soon, on the packaging it says they use Eneloop technology so I presume they are made by Sanyo.

Maplin also sell the Maha C-9000, it might be worth looking if there is a store near you, I bought the Lacrosse beacause its about £12 cheaper and I'm stingy:crackup:
