Hi all,
I bought a 3D Mag some time ago and want to convert it to LED.
I made some choices :
- I want something brighter than my moded MiniMag + SSCP4 TerraLux mod,
- it must run much longer than this MiniMag (3h full bright),
- I don't want to put anything else than 3D non-rechargeable batteries (cheap, widely available, no need to charge them, big energy capacity = long runtime + bright, no need to buy batteries adapters), unless there are good reasons to do so,
- must have reasonably focused beam (good throw) to light things more than 30m away (85ft) (bike/inline-skating/hiking light),
- would be great if I buid it myself (electronical and mechanical abilities)
I browsed the internet to find parts and I ended up with this :
- an XP-G-R5 LED seems to have the best Lumen/Watt ratio at the moment with a good 350+L at 1000mA max (3.5W = 100Lm/W) : http://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Power...8_120_138.html
- a constant current source with 5 modes (seems efficiency is 85-92%) : http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.6190
- an other one with 16 modes : http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7612
- I initialy wanted to build a constant current source my self out of widely available components : does it worth the time/money/bothering ?
- I have read that many use an SSCP7 : is it worth the money ? (shorter runtime, need for batteries converters, etc... ?)
- do I need a new reflector or can I use the same cutting of the stock reflector as in the 2D mods ?
- do I need something else ?
I didn't understand how nor where to order a heatsink that could hold the LED bulb and the constant current circuit and fit in my 3D Mag : where and how can I order one ?
I did go to some mods pages for 2D Mag with SSCP7 and others, but I'm not sure about my parts list.
Do you have any suggestions ? any corrections ? or anything else ?
Regards,
Dag
