I'm going to change my divelight from 12volt 50w halogen to led and I did order from led-tech.de this (4 x Cree MCE4WT-A2-WG-M0 on round PCB)
http://www.led-tech.de/en/High-Powe...x-CREE-MC-E-on-round-PCB-LT-1679_120_117.html
and also I ordered 2800 mA driver
http://www.led-tech.de/en/LED-Contr...wer-Supply--2800mA,-30V--LT-1290_118_119.html .

I haven't got yet leds and parts. but came up question, should I drive it in parallel or serial?
looks like those are connected to serial in picture...

Hi there,

may be you should reconsider your project.

1. The optic for the Leds has 46 dregrees, which is pretty floody.
2. The driver is a linear driver, which means, it produces a lot of heat.

If the floody optic is no problem, you should look for the
"Der Wichtel" driver (forumsearch) and choose the 5A one
wired 2s2p.

yes optics /reflectors are still in progress, or searching better, maybe boom reflectors if found somewhere. or
this dx sku.1915

thanks I'll check der wichtel

stupid question :)
2s2p means 2serial and 2 parallel?

heat isn't much problem here in Finland cold waters...

edit: got it, I didn't realize that in one of four mc-e there is 4 single dies...
and found from forum that there is possibility to connect these :
"one die, the options:
4p: 1400mA @ 3.7v
2s2p: 700 mA @ 7.4v
4s: 350 mA @ 14.8v"

This is going to be a HUGE light that will probably blind you and be REALLY floody!

can somebody light me up with this mce thing :)
there is in that pcb 4 mce and one of 4 little leds in mce are in serial connection like in picture. thats not problem, it can be modified.

how should I connect all these if I use 14,8V Li-Po battery and what current driver? or which is best.
I am confused because other place tells that on star pcb (one) mce's leds are wired in serial (4S) and input voltage is around 3.6-4.2V @ 2.8A.

looking at the picture, I think the LEDs are in series, but for 1 led, the dies are parallel, so you need to supply it 2.8A, the forward voltage would be in the 14V range (don't know the exact forward voltage).
Note that many drivers (certainly the cheap ones) may not be able to drive 4 of these leds properly.

I suppose a linear regulator might work since the battery voltage is similar, but I'm not experienced with this.

that's what I also thougt.. and I'll going to be test like it..

those bigger black dots are free and can be connect freely, even all 16 to serial :)

I found from this forum connecting for quad mce's
http://www.geocities.com/telescopiman/MC_E_Blog.html

and connected it like this, works well.
so all dies are in parallel and all mces serial.

it takes 2,8Amps with nimh battery pack at 14,7volts (not fully charged).
for reflector i ordered DX sku.1915 not so tight beam but works well, maybe about 10-15 degrees.
I will maybe order DX reflector sku.5960 tested with just putting over mce's and look little tighter beam than 1915.

so its little closer for now :)
putting leds in my aluminium lighthead needs little lathing, maybe this week.
and new batteries and battery canister.

little update.
light from 2meter distance circle about 1.15meters.

driving 2s7.2V Nimh [email protected] constant current driver.

this mce going to be backup divelight, allready ordeder 7up (xpg) maybe 1.3A or so.....
