Hey guys...if I get the extender for the surefire 9p (making it a 4 cell light) and add a p91 upgrade head...how muchruntime will i get? and will it be 200 lumens?

If you extend the light to be 4 cells, make sure to never use the regular lithium batteries. 4 CR123 would equal 12 volts, the P91 is 9V and the P91 would fry.

B.T.W. you don't have to extend the 9P to 4 cells in order to use the P91. Using 2 rechargeable 17500 cells, you can power the P91 in the 9P.

The P91 is made to run on three cells and would blow on four. If you want to add an A19 extender you would also need a turbo head or an after market 12volt lamp.

As stated above, adding an extra cell will simply blow your lamp. You have a few options, and these aren't exhaustive!

1. Use three cells in the 9P with a P91, as intended by surefire, 20 min run time.

2. Use the extender on the 9P, get a 12v G&P lamp. Not sure on runtime though (1 hour?), and around 200+ lumens.

3. Use the 9P+extender and get a KT-2 turbo head and run an M4 lamp, for example the MN60 for 220 lumens for an hour, or the MN61 for 350 lumens for 20 minutes.

4. Use the 9P+extender and two of AWs protected 17670 cells (see dealers section) and run the P91, brighter than running it on 3xcr123s becuase the larger cells hold their voltage better under load.

Another option for making your 9P light brighter is to get one of the Lumens Factory D26 9V lamp assemblies, rated by LF at 150 to 380 lumens. The HO-9 (9V, 320 Lumens) High Output Reflector Module (for example) is rated at about 40 minutes runtime (on both primary and rechargeable 123s).

DJ Q,

I've done option 4 as listed by nzgunnie
(P91+9P+A19 and two of AWs protected 17670 cells).

I haven't done a runtime test but I believe other threads say it will last for 20-25 minutes and possibly a little longer.

It is brighter than running it on 3xcr123s, but the flashlight is longer. I really like the length of the 9P and find the extra lenght of the A19 makes it feel a little weird, but I want the extra power and runtime.

Using just the 9P and 17500's is pushing the batteries too hard according to other threads. It will work, usually by double clicking but you will shorten the life of the 17500's.

Running the P91 for longer than 5-10 minutes gets it very very hot.

Regards
Dave

DJ Q, don't rule out just running it on 2x AW 17500 and a Lumens Factory lamp of your choice if you dont want an extender

if you want to run 17500s, use the LF EO-9 lamp, it's a 2 amp load, so it's safe for 17500s, runtime will be about the same as a P91 on 17670s, it won't have as much total output, but will be more focused. It's a great lamp.
