How are you going to mod the 5D?

Wouldn't it be more economical to get a Terralux SSC-P4 drop-in??

Don't know yet. I have a lathe and metal stock on hand. In the mail I have a few driver boards coming but I may make my own driver.

Yeah, if I figure in my labor I would come out miles ahead cost wise getting a drop in, but it's a hobby and brings together my other skills. The emitters themselves were cheap from DX.

How can a single die led direct swap for a 4-die LuxV that expects 7.2 volts Vf?

CM modded my KL6 to a Cree P4 last year and it works perfectly with the step down converter in the KL6. Mine needs to see 4+ volts to regulate. BTW, some of the Lux V's with low vf can regulate at 6+ volts in the KL6.
