Aloris lists the #20 as a universal tool holder for right or left hand turning, facing, chamfering & boring ... and it is.

The adjustable angle cradle & cartridge are the keys to the design. Turning the cartridge where you want it allows one tool to perform multiple functions, without changing the orientation of the tool post.

The tool uses standard TNMG inserts, cheap & easy to find on eBay. I'll post photos later of the tool in use.

Just went looking around (first thought was "I want one!"), found this:
As many times as I've looked through the Aloris catalog, I've never seen that one.

That looks like a versatile tool holder
+1

I normally set the compound to 30 degrees, but changed that today to 45 degrees to allow a 45 degree shearing or boring cut. The adjustable cartridge allows changing the tip angle without adjusting the toolpost, which is a real plus. And the Allen wrench that adjusts the cartridge is the same size used on the Set-Tru top jaws, so it's always hanging on the tool board.

Mine cost $65 in an eBay auction - not bad considering that you're buying both the block & the tool holder. Another neat one to look for is the #22 which has a dovetail on both sides of the block.

how's the #20 holder been going so far?
I use it for almost every job :D

Run the spindle in reverse & feed the insert through the "back" side of the part to get a 45 degree chamfer, or use it like a form tool and bump a chamfer into the edge of the part. One of the most useful tools I own.

Darn... my will is breaking down. Only thing stopping me from getting the mini version now is the rarity of ATPG inserts. Curious about the difference in rigidity between the mini and the one you have, having the teeth on the side of the head as opposed to the bottom.

Then again, Aloris doesn't make crap equipment, do they?
