AMC7315: What type of regulator is it?

I've had a look at the data sheet and it doesn't explicitly state. It is a linear regulator or switching/buck?

I'm planning to build a bike light and am trying to figure the battery set up. If it is buck, I could start with a much higher voltage so that it stays in regulation longer. If it is linear, then I should stay as close to the LED Vf to minimise waste.

I think you mean the AMC7135, right?
It is indeed a linear current regulator.
