Is anyone gonna ever release something more powerful then the MF 3500 in the same approx. size/weight?

There is such a huge market for HID's in the public safety field I just don't understand why there is so little to choose from.

Am I missing something or is there another HID out there that I have missed?

Not mainstream, but isn't Mac building Mag style (probably physically larger) 50 watt HID's to order using Xeray's new ballast? I'd give him a PM.

I just headed over to revive that thread Bob but you beat me to it...lol. Mac never answered my question so I'm guessing it was a one-off deal. The only think I can't figure out is why Xeray posted quite a bit about it, if there weren't plans to make a few.

HIDSGT, nothing new yet. There are larger 35W lights lights the Oracle but nothing the size of the Microfire so far. I really think the problem is a matter of physical size. If you want any 35W light with a tube you can still get your hand around, it's going to have to be long, to get any reasonable runtime. So, if the light is going to be short, it must instead be fat which usually requires a handle. I think the big question is, what price point are we talking about? Considering the price of the L50, I just don't think anyone is going to be able to produce an aluminum bodied, Polarion style, light with high quality components for under $1000-1200. Considering that the X1 comes in at $1650 our price I think it would be a hard market to crack into.

Dan at Xevision replied to me that they plan on releasing a light using the Xepod by the end of this year. No further details than that. Hope it's something similar to Macs:twothumbs

Sorry I never got back to you I must have missed it. I looked into building these and my cost in lots of 50 pieces for Ballast/Reflectors/Battery Holders + material was close to $500. If I had pre-orders for 25 or so lights at around $1200 it would work. But in this economy it would not happen so I somewhat abandoned the project.

Ok, thanx for the replies. Is there anyone on this board or anywhere else that will make me a custom HID? I know it's not gonna be cheap, I just want one. Can someone help recommend someone reputable? Thanx...

Thanks Mac, and no problem about the other thread. I know that's a pretty expensive custom but for what you're getting that's not a bad price. The next step is an X1 which isn't going to be necessarily "better." The X1 probably uses the more expensive aluminum coated reflector and it's waterproof, but that's about it for pluses I would think.

HIDSGT, I assume you want a custom light meeting your original criteria of "Mag style"?
