Anyone have a NS and a BitZ?

I have the Gen 1 Raw NS and its no longer working thanks to its 4-5th drop on concrete. I love it so much I might buy another one. Its such a beautiful light, polished nickel silver, clean lines, almost like functional jewelry in a world of tacticool products.

Because of the size and brightness its always with me, so im debating if I should get another Raw NS or go a little bigger with the Bitz

I previously had a P1D CE, Its brighter for longer and I can find CR123s almost anywhere. I was ''OK'' with the size. I could deal with the size of a Bitz if I had to.

Was wondering if the anyone that had both can comment on the brightness/beam?

I have both, the NS with one of the newer light emitters installed.

The NS appears to be brighter than the BitZ, though this may be due to the tighter beam.

The NS outthroughs the BitZ due to the tighter beam, also.

I carry both. The BitZ comes into its own during extended use as one of the three brightness levels is usually more appropriate for lighting than the two NS levels.

I use the BitZ for walks, when doing work on the car, etc. The NS I use for shorter walks to the car, when I need to do a quick light-up to see something better, etc.

Personally, I'd recommend getting one of the newer light emitters for the NS (assuming the body on yours is still serviceable). My older emitter of unknown vintage was rather dull. The newer emitter made me really appreciate the NS. But, I do like the BitZ enough that I bought another - the BitZ really is a rather nice light.

I'd look at a new LE for your raw NS if you liked it that much.

Do you know what broke? I love my raw al because, technically, there's nothing to break! I'm guessing a solder connection has broken somewhere and you could easily correct it.

:grin2: surely you should realise the only solution is to BUY BOTH!

I'm a fan of all Robs lights and HgRyu's BitZ

I love the knurling on the BitZ and everything else too.

What's to break ??? With no circuits or switches to go wrong, it's probably just a case of wetting ( breifly melting )the solder a bit and it should work again. Even if the emitter has bust, a new one and 2 mins with a soldering iton should sort you out and only cost a few bucks.

I have both both. The Ns is more awe inspiring, it's brighter, prettier, smaller and operates on a fancy battery.

The BitZ is more utilitarian, more waterproof and had a nice pocket clip. Unlike the Ns, it's a little bit too big for me to wear from a lanyard for any length of time. Although the Bitz is small for a 123 light, it is noticeably fatter in the pocket.

V8ToyTruck. All you need is a new PCB with emitter installed and one of the new McGizmo reflectors (to fit on the Cree), and that should fix any problem, and give you brighter output and better runtime. The PCB with Cree Q5 emitter installed is £13, and the reflector is £5.

Totally forgot about this thread :(

Thanks for all the replies...while I was deciding what to do, I couldn't be without a small EDC so I had to pick up a LOD CE (and maybe for kicks run it on 10440)

I looked on the Lummi site and cannot find a link for the new LE and the McGizmo reflector (unless its the same as the Alu/NS 16mm Cree one)

Let me see if I got this right

PCB + Q5 Emitter = Light Engine?

and that drops right into the first Gen Raw NS? Would the copper ''C'' shaped heatsink work with the newer emitter/reflector combo?

I'll try to ''wet'' the solder, but with the newer output achieved I might as well upgrade.

The newer light emitters don't use the C-ring (that is what I had).

There is a big difference between the old and the new emitters.

I emailed Rob to order my new emitter/reflector combo.
