LOL Ted, I grew up in Vermont and graduated from your listed Vermont Technical College. Never thought I'd see the name mentioned on CPF. Although of high academic excellence, it's a very remote college as are some of the other's you listed that I know about. I dormed next to a field of grazing cows.

Burlington and the surrounding area is the cultural and population center of Vermont including the Burlington area colleges you mentioned. There is a lot going on and it certainly isn't as urban as big cities but perhaps or perhaps not may be more urban then the original poster's desires. Still you can travel not too far outside of Burlington and get pretty rural, pretty quickly.

I believe in southern Vermont there are some cultural centers, albeit much smaller then in the Burlington area but yes, if you desire a younger local, you'll have to go to a college area.

I hope other Vermonters, former or present will chip in. I grew up in the northeast Kingdom area where the entire county population is just slightly over 6,000 people.

Not from there, but just spent a day in Bennington. If there's a prettier place on the planet I don't know where that would be. And I don't know that you'll ever find nicer people. It's a really great place - but can't speak one way or another about the younger crowd. It wouldn't take much for me to join you. Need an uncle?
