This head was bought last year and came with 2 modules for the head to allow switching between incandesent bulbs and LED.
The incan module has a bi-pin socket and an 1185 installed for use with a C3 body and AW soft start switch....Very bright!
The LED module came with an older K2 and a 3 level driver for use with 18650's only.
Being a dumb-***, I forgot about the 18650 and ran it with 2xCR123's...:hairpull:
The LED module sat around until I could think of a cool mod for it.
During last years Michigan CPF get-together, member discoverEDC had a sweeet Mag modded with an Aspheric that totally blew me away..oo:
Well disvoverEDC came over yesterday and brought his Aspheric Mag with him again.
I had an aspheric lense from a foglight that I've had since I was like 16. I'm glad I kept it for another 16yrs as I FINALLY found a use for it.
We compared my aspheric lense to his and found mine created a more focused beam! That did it!
Lucky for me it fit perfectly inside the Mag head with the addition of an extra o-ring.
At first I used an XR-E that had the entire dome and metal ring knocked off but still worked. The driver still worked but had only one level and didn't run the emitter as bright as it should.
I had an old P7 module run at roughly 2.8A by an AMC 7135 from another mod that was not getting used anymore. The driver was removed and used to run a different Q5 XR-E..
With the new emitter and driver, the module was MUCH bright than the "domeless" XR-E and the old screwed up driver.
After adding another o-ring before installing the LED module to help space the emitter back enough for proper focus, I end up with a nicely focused beam. I'll try to get some beamshots tonight if it ever stops raining here in michigan.
