Hello!

Cant find something about...

Does anyone already make it possible to mod a Novatac / HDS with an
aspherical lens?!

There once was a Novatac (Supernova) Mod with an Tir-Optic, but not
an aspherical mod, as far as i know...

I've tried it. The focal point is beyond the length of the front end. You could probably do it but I don't see how it'd be waterproof and still have a good focus. A TIR optic that's narrow would be the second best choice. I can't seem to find a decent optic that fits.

Did you have a picture of the beam?

Of the the aspherical? No I didn't bother, it wasn't at all practical. I was holding the optic about 2-5mm in front of the light to get it to focus. Since I was using the SSC it was just a projected image of the die.

What I quickly thought of was since the HDS has the ability to use bezel rings, you could make a custom ring that would have extend out about 2-5mm (I can't remember) have a lip for the optic to sit on top of an o-ring and another small retaining ring to hold the optic to the new bezel. Using Teflon tape on the threads would would allow the head to remain water proof. I don't have the ability to do this but I could draft it up.

I have tried it as well .... SSC emitters do not work very well with aspheric lens :(
Tebore is right about the focal distance, there is not enough length in the
Novatac head to focus the lens correctly.
Kid9P ask the same question no long ago and I tried it out .... it just so happen
that I had a 19mm (???) aspheric lens in my spares box.
This is the result of that experiment

If you wanted to get similar results as an Mag + aspheric lens
you need a Cree emitter and also remove the reflector from the Novatac.

If I were you I would go with another optic, not a aspherical lens. I just built me a Aspherical Maglite with a Cree R2. I also bought me a aspherical lens for my Jetbeam Jet-III but the beam looks really bad because you aren't able to focus with it. Maybe it works better with the Novatac and HDS. With the Maglite you have the ability to focus, so you can get a 'sharp image of the die' for every distance. This is just my opinion.

After all i think its not possible...the beam looks really bad IMO.

As all of you mentioned too. :) Perhaps i need to go back to buy
a supernova...:(

Ok, so we know that an SSC emitter does not pair well with an aspheric. But now I'm wondering how an aspheric would look with a Novatac with the K2 swap?

Toby, you might be better off trying a different host, I have an aleph19 with an aspheric setup that works nicely. It is slightly longer than the novatac and you'd loose the UI. Shoot me a pm if you'd like details. Otherwise you might be able to get a cree swapped in. That would be cool!

I tried an aspherical lens with a K2 modded Mag and it does
come out better than a SSC P4 (if my memory is correct :D )
I'll try and get some beamshots up later .... tomorrow

Just for you Bruce :D

Both photos are a Mag with K2 TFFC to give you an idea of what
the K2 looks like behind an aspherical lens

Heres another one comparing with a R2 @ 1200mA and K2 TFFC @ 1400mA
The R2 has a KD lens and the K2 a MG lens

Excuse my total lack of photography skills

Its not the diameter you have to worry about but the focal length :(

I was messing about trying to get an aspherical lens to work with
a SF 6P. Ended up buying half a dozen lens ..... I gave up in the end
