After seeing Will's results with the bomb proof host, i got the urge to work on mine today.

Grabbed 4 High CRI P4 S2 bin Seouls from mouser and some 20mm ims smooth reflectors.

i'm using 4 separate drivers to drive each P4 at 800mah, which is the max
rating for these warm white leds.

The drivers are wired in parallel driving each p4 individually.
Power source is 6 eneloops in series.

I have a small tab taped onto the outer oring for easy removal. i'm still
working on a thin carbon fiber plate to hide the driver guts. I found it's easy
to remove the lens by running a thin peice of lubed plastic(cut from plastic blister packaging)
between the lens and the second oring, and slowly working the lens up.

some pics.

test run, no reflectors. These leds would make a great mule.

nice to see this host being used just need DX to deliver the damn parts to finish mine:grin2: cheers DocD

That's creative and it looks great! I had a similar idea but with a quad optic. But alas, I swapped my hosts. I like your solution with the drivers on edge.

I still like these massive bodies! Nice clean mod!

Thanks for sharing...

Very nice build and kudos for the creativity on the drivers - great idea :twothumbs

It is awesome to start seeing lights built around these outstanding hosts :D

Nice setup. I like how the warmer P4's print compared to a cool white. That yellower color just shows up better, sort of one of the reasons I like incans for distance, particularly if there is any ambient light present.

I've just re-read this. It's an ingenious solution, and that is a very nice beam. Excellent work!
