Beamshoots from AAA Flashlights.
This article is part two of my AAA review, part one is here: A look at AAA flashlights..

DSC_5603.jpg

Here are all the lights I have included, they are (Same sequence as picture): ARC-U, ARC AAA Ti, Killer AAA, Tiablo A1, Streamlight Microstream, LumaPower Avenger GX, Tank 007 TK-701, Leatherman S1, Leatherman S2, Fenix E01, Fenix L0D, Fenix LD01, Maglite Solitaire, Led Lenser P2, Led Lenser P3, LiteFLux LF2X, LiteFlux LF2XT, Peak Matterhorn #1, Peak Matterhorn #2, Peak Eiger, Peak Baltic.
ARC-U is a UV light, the normal version has a beam more like Fenix E01

BrightnessMaxA.png

BrightnessMaxB.png

The first two graphs show maximum brightness from the flashlights and there are large differences between the different lights. Some of the lights has different brightness, depending on the battery used and a diffuser will always reduce the brightness a bit. Note: Peak Eiger #8 has an extreme high brighness with LiIon, this is probably because it goes into direct drive and this high level will be very hard on the light and the battery.

BrightnessA.png

BrightnessB.png

Hre I have change to a log scale and added all brightness settings for multi level lights. LiteFlux has the best coverage, it goes both very low and very high (with LiIon batteries). For a more simple light, with a large range, the Avenger is good, but its maximum brightness is not as high as Fenix L0D/LD01, but they have a less adjustment range.

BrightnessLux.png

To get an idea about how far the lights can throw, I have measured the lux (at one meter), a high value equals a good throw. Note that the Led Lenser lights had the highest value when using wide focus!

Many of the lights has only one level and the picture used here is the same as above, just with increased exposure. For lights with multiple settings, I have chosen the picture from the lowest setting and again increased the exposure.

Nice beamshoot HKJ.

I was looking for the KD Buckle....? Would have been a good addition.

Also, it looks like the tight focus on the LED Lensers is less bright than the loose focus?

Great job...and nice collection you have there.

I did not really want to include a lot of DX/Kaidomain lights, one reason is that it might be difficult to get the same model as I test.

That is correct, the center hot spot is brighter without tight focus, with focus you get a larger clearly defined hot spot, but a bit less bright.

Great job!

One thing confused me a little. The Liteflux NiMH beam on the grass looked very comparable with the Fenix LD01 but MUCH dimmer (with a smaller spill) on the wallshot. Am I reading something incorrectly or do others see the same thing?

Great comparison! Thanks! You know I love all size comparisons like the one in the first photo and even beamshots in real world.

You are right, I will have to redo that picture, I do not believe that I have the LF2X on max.

Edit: It is fixed now.

A great post, thank you.

So far my only AAA light is my Fenix E01.

But now I'm thinking both a Peak Eiger and a LumaPower Avenger GX might be in order.

Thanks!

P.S. Since you are so obliging...would you please send your AAA flashlight collection to me? I'll gladly pay for shipping. I'll test them out first hand and send them back....eventually! LOL

You want to leave me in darkness?

Anyway, good try, but no.:crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup:

I'd just like to thank you very much!
This must have been an awfull lot of work! :goodjob:

+100 on what Ice said, I've posted some tiny beamshot threads and know how long it takes to do those, just taking the shots would take a long time not to mention uploading, editing etc. A heartfelt thank you man!

I was so engrossed with the photos (and am too lazy to go read everything again) so i am asking, were the LD01 pics taken with the LD01 using a 10440 or nimh?

I do not edit the beamshots, I only do some automatic processing with presets, this takes some computer time, but not much of my time.
The fact that I uses a good DSLR and takes photos in raw also gives me a lot of processing options, i.e. +/- 2 steps exposure compensation (with some reservations) and a lot of extra resolution.

When doing beamshots and measurement I always stays within specifications for the lights (Or there would have been big warning signs), i.e. it was with NiMH.

It is neutral, but with medium beam.

Excellent--thanks!

You have just confirmed that I need a neutral medium, as I had suspected. Some have commented that the neutral Rebel in the Eiger is too warm, but the pictures look good to me.
