Best Batteries for P1D CE

For me best output means longlife reliability, possibility to use the different levels, saving money and protection of the environment = RCR123 3.0Volt recheargeables

Best regards

I too use 3.0V RCR123A cells in my P1D-CE. I like the fact that I still have all the modes with these cells.

Could someone please explain which batteries give the most lumens out of the P1D CE. I really don't care about run time. Guess I should've been more specific in my orig question.

Looking at the already mentioned Chevrofreak's measurements (first graph):

it appears that all types of batteries provide the same max output. I haven't found any different info in later threads so I would assume that it is confirmed (or that I missed something.... :thumbsdow ).

That is true..all types provide the same max output. I personally just run primaries in mine....

Sorry, I meant to say - Where is the best (aka cheapest !) place to buy Rechargeable 3.0V 123's ? ! :)

My P1D CE produces the same measured maximum output with a CR123A primary cell and 3.7 volt RCR123A Li-Ion, consistent with Chevrofreak's measurements.

3.0V RCR123 li-ions are the worst type of li-ion batteries. If realibility and runtime is really your concern--as opposed to being cheap justo to save a buck (I don't buy the "I'm saving the environment" BS), then primaries are by far the best choice hands down.

I can't see your misgivings. These cells are working great in this light and also for my uses.
I'm also satisfied with the runtime.
I can recommend these cells for this light. And yes, I own various other LiIon types with better capacitys, but they don't fit the Fenix.
When I'll need a light for the whole night with one set of batts. I'll take another one, or carry a few spares.

When you think "saving the environment" is BS, then you should choose another "name" instead of "Outdoors Fanatic".

I doubt your sanity with such statements.

I've been using my P1D CE for half a year now, ALWAYS on "HIGH", often with 90 MINUTES of continuous runtime - and without any heat problem!

The "trick": I used only 3,7V RCR 123. At that voltage - as everyone knows - the light "loses!" its levels and medium (one twist on) is already "high" and even BRIGHTER than the "real high" (two twist on) with 3V lithiums or 3V RCRs.

Some days ago I bought and tried some 3V RCRs because I wanted the low-level for reading, which is OK with runtimes of about 7 hours. But on the other levels these batteries are disappointing! The 3V RCRs make the light VERY hot on high and runtime is only about 30 minutes.

So I recommend everyone who has not yet tried it to use 3,7 V RCRs. You get a completely different flashlight with them: the P1D CE stays cool, is extremly bright, has 90 minutes+ of runtime - and is a one-step-twistie (like the P1D), always on full (really full!) power.
Try it and enjoy!

I agree with lightknight..Use 3.7 rechargeables. AW brand from the Lighthound is a good way to go. http://www.lighthound.com.
But you will lose Low and won't be able to tell much difference between Med and high. (there is a difference though as reflected by runtimes and heat buildup)

I mostly use Primaries, simply because I bought a stash of em a few years back.

This can be considered an advantage since it turns on in high and there's really no point in cycling through the other levels, so it becomes an on/off flashlight like the P1-CE, albeit a little bigger.

On the other hand, if you want 10 hours of runtime, then just pop in a CR123 and switch to low.
