Newbie here looking for advice.

I've read the thread related to the Stanley HID 0109 and was pretty sold until I found this other one at Advanced Auto. I think the Autocraft is just a rebranded version of the Professionals Favorite… Although I'm not for sure???

So this for $40:

or this for $80:

Considering this for a birthday present for my brother to use at his cabin up on a hill on a remote lake in the middle of a national forest. Looking for something that would be good to use on the boat at night to help locate the cabin and at the cabin to spot things on the lake. He has a gas generator he runs sometimes during the day and the boat has a 12 volt outlet.

Is either one a clear winner or should I ask is the Stanley worth twice as much? I was initially targeting $50, but can go either way. I'd like to get my brother something cool and he is the kind of guy that seem to have everything.

I can't speak about performance differences as I don't have the 20 mcp spotlight shown. I do have the 10 mcp version of it though, sold by Peak, and it is much bulkier and harder to live with compared to the Stanley HID spotlight. The Stanley's pistol grip shape and smaller overall size makes it much easier to aim and use, even though I think it's actually a little bit heavier than my 10 mcp spotlight.

I picked one up on my way home from work today. Holly cow this pig is BIG! I've never seen anything close to this big... I may have to run by

Wal-Mart to see if they have the Stanley HID for comparison. I tried Lowes and they didn't any.

I can't decide the guy in me says bigger is better and a lot of fun could be had off his deck shining over the lake. It's probably close to 100 yards downhill to the water... this thing could probably light up the hill if there weren't so many trees.

It might be too big to take on the boat, but then again you could probably spot across the lake… about 1 mile.

I have the Pro Fav and it's a 120w halogen with lots of throw, but it also weighs about 10-11 lbs. and It's bulky to carry around.
For the application you mentioned, the Stanley seems like a better choice, the pistol grip is easier for pointing from a boat or vehicle. I'll probably get one if it ever shows up at my local Walmart.

Also, the link shows the Autocraft at $59.99, not $40.

Advance coupon code ES123 takes $20 off of $50... order online, pick up at store following these directions = $42.97 with tax out the door:

Order an Autocraft... recieved a PF. Going by Wal-Mart tomorrow to see what they have. Then decide whihc one to take back. If Wal-Mart doesn't have them... that will make my decision a little easier.

That's a pretty good deal! I'm tempted to get another.

You can get the Stanley at Lowe's for $69.97 with free shipping.
Don't know if they have it in store, though.

I had to get something shipped out since my brother birthday is next Wednesday and no one had the Stanley HID in stock. I stuck with the 20 M PF because I wanted to gift wrap it too. It is pretty cool looking and should be fun for at least a few minutes. Since there is now electricity for miles near his cabin, I'm thinking it might be fun seeing one this thing can really do.

The crazy think is now you can get $25 off $60 at advance auto using coupon code: BIG25. So one could get this light plus ay a cotter pin for about $35 and some change... Maybe I need one?
