In my kitchen, I have a computer which shows caller ID information. The computer runs "headless" with no keyboard or mouse after everything is set up. Recently, I bought an LCD monitor, and in an effort to prolong its life, I instructed Windows to have the monitor go into "Standby" after there is no activity for 15 minutes. Here is the problem:
When a call comes in, the modem recognizes that there is an incoming call, and intercepts the caller ID data between the first and second ring. That information is then picked up by the program I use, which displays it on the screen. The problem is that a new piece of video information is not enough to bring the monitor out of standby! Windows requires a keyboard or mouse event to "wake" the monitor. I *know* there must be a piece of freeware or shareware out there which can make Windows execute an event "on ring," i.e. when the modem detects a ring, bring the monitor out of standby, but I cannot for the life of me find it. What I want is something like this:
1) The line rings
2) The modem detects the line is ringing
3) The piece of software on my computer registers that the line is ringing, and if the monitor is in standby/sleep, triggers the monitor to come out of standby
4) I can see who is calling.
As it is, the monitor stays in standby, and I cannot see who is calling, even though the information is there. If there is no program out there that can directly bring the monitor out of standby when the modem detects a ring, perhaps there is something out there which can emulate a keypress on ring. I do not know if this will work in the same way as a real, physical keyboard, but it is worth a shot if I cannot get it working the other way.
Does anyone know of a way to do this?
