Can a first run Jil lite 1.3 be modded to take a RCR2?

It's the first ones that came out, this is the regulated model. I would use it more if it could take a R-CR2, since I use rechargeables on everything now.
So i didn't know if a mod could be done to the board some how to keep from torching the circuit. wadda think? VDG

I have the Jil 1.3 that has a Goldserve Piglet board with Seoul emitter. It can handle voltage from 2.4v to 5.15v. I use it with primary and rechargable CR2, rechargable 3.7v 14500 in a Cab body, and two AA's (alkaline, NiMh, or lithium) in the Bus body. It is a great setup.

On low, it puts out about 10 lumens (as measured in my light box) and on high it puts out more light than a PD-S Mizer. I just did a runtime on low with a primary CR2 and it ran for 10 1/2 hours to 50% (with 9 1/2 hours of that with dead flat output due to regulation). I can only imagine how long it would last with the Bus body.

I think Goldserve is out of touch right now, but he should resurface at some point. Here is a link to the thread:

It is a great upgrade to the 1.3 and I highly recommend it.

I met the inventor of the JIL 1.3 in Seoul. A great guy and really dedicated to excellence. He was pretty firm that it was not for R123 batteries and current handle the current. For a modded model, who knows.

There is a lot of room in a JiL 1.3W UP. You could easily add an improved heatsink and driver board. A flupic would be a good choice if you plan on using RCR2 cells.

If you want another option beyond the flupic, you might consider a GD500 board from the Sandwich Shoppe. It takes an input voltage from 1.8V to 5.4V. (You can also order the board with any current that you specify.) The downside is that the board is a single level output, but I happen to like that feature. Keep it simple.

Thanks guys, more options then I thought. I am a Confirmed idiot when It comes to modding, and a P4 would be nice so I am looking at the goldserve drop in. But how hard is the GD500 to put in? I don't know squat about this stuff but 18$ and 60$ is a big jump, and one level is fine. VDG

The Micropuck driver in the JIL-CR2 1.3W is wired in its boost configuration, but it is possible to re-wire the Micropuck to a buck, or even a buck-boost configuration. That might be a simpler solution than replacing the whole LED module with one of Goldserve's excellent Piglet drivers. The instructions for how to wire the Micropuck driver in various configurations can be found in the data sheet for the Micropuck (see my JIL info post for a link). I've been meaning to try this myself someday, but I've been busy lately. Good luck.
