I am just getting into this type of battery.I have read here that the Duraloop(white top) is a re-badged Eneloop. So can they be mixed together in my Apex Extreme? Black tops as well?? Thanks.

I have spent quite a few hrs. reading about these batteries in the past few days.I read this thread that was just trying to be sure I was not making a mistake.http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?p=2853640.I also read smoke, fire, the dangerous side of batteries.

TTA please ignore any of my questions that upset you.You may find that adding fiber to your diet will help your enjoyment of life.

Just an observation..
But whenever I read someones response, it's hard to see if the person is smiling while typing. So sometimes someones true intentions are lost. In the OP defence, I've searched the posts till I'm crosseyed and have ended up with more questions than answers regarding rechargable batteries.

I know what you mean, been reading up on Lithium / Li-ion, possibly to get some lights powered by other than AA NiMh's. Just wait until my questions come..... :shakehead .... but that's another thread.

You're right - my apologies.

I've invested many hours of my time attempting to assemble a list of LINKs with the answers to the majority of the questions a Newbie would ask and when I see a question like your's (and it's late, I'm unable to sleep, and have poor judgement), I over-react with the kidding around and poking fun.

Thanks for the apology,of course it is accepted. That is an impressive list of links you have compiled.

I have just spent some time reading about the various chargers that come with the Eneloop Pack sold at Costco.I have spent allot of time these past few days reading about this stuff,I am kind of in a mental blur about it all to be honest.

I hope these batteries are not more of a PIA than I thought.I got tired of Alkaline batteries leaking,so I switched to the Eneloop. I just want a battery that I can take out of the device and put in the charger. I will never be a batteryophile, but I am glad some of you are.:D

Hi TTA,

Just wanted to add that I have appreciated you (and other contributors) taking the time to assemble the links.

As a moderate newbie, when I first learned of this site last year, I was overwhelmed with the amount of information. At first, after spending hours and hours of reading, you think you understanding something. Then you come across another thread that questions whether you understood what you read. Then you search more and then get confused at what you were looking for because some of the threads go off on tangents, etc. etc. etc.

From my experience, I assume that someone has already asked a question and have been answered. FWIW, I think it's worth the time to search and read as much as possible - even if you don't initially get the answer you are searching as the additional information gets tucked away for future recall. (That was the case for me and searching for Li-Ion rechargeable batteries.) Then, after getting thoroughly confused, my last resort is to post a question. This is just me ;).

At any rate, to add to the OP question, one thing that one may consider is to try to pair up batteries with similar capacities. If the Black Top Duraloops do not maintain a long shelf capacity, I would presume that the capacity may vary enough that one underperforming cell will reduce the runtime/performance of a device. (This is especially important for Li-Ion rechargeables to not have a cell be over-discharged: I hope my learnings from this site are correct , otherwise, I may have to demote myself form a moderate newbie to just straight newbie.)

I recently started to check the capacity of all my NiMH's - standard and LSD (using Powerex Wizard One C9000 - which I picked up more than a year ago after I found this forum) so that I can group the like capacities together and make sure that I charged them in pairs and dated them.

Anyway, perhaps too much rambling... Hope this helps.

Although you can theoretically mix together every NiMH cell ever made, there are two major deterrents to mixing cells with significantly different capacities and/or impedance. Firstly, it can cause the device utilizing the cells to under-perform and/or power-down prematurely due to the 'weaker' cells inability to provide equivalent levels of current and/or capacity. Secondly, it can cause the stronger cells in the series to reverse charge the weaker cells that prematurely reach a fully discharged state, causing permanent damage to those cells.

Accordingly, as long as they are in a similar state of charge and over-all condition, you should still enjoy optimum performance with a mix of Eneloops and Duraloops since they are the same cell under their jackets.

You should also enjoy close to optimum performance with a mix of the Eneloop and the black-topped Duracell, but I would be less inclined to push this mix as hard or allow it to discharge as completely for the reasons already stated.
