Even though I do not know the name (or even if it exists) of my query,
I'll try to be succent.

Is there a battery charger that can be used with AC or DC (electrical port in a car or a car's cigarette lighter or whatever they are called these days) to charge AA and AAA batteries. Then that device, with the batteries still in it, can be used to charge other items; cell phone, ipod etc. Plus the charged batteries can be remove and place in a flashlight or some other electronic device that requires.

All kinds of additional descriptions enter into my mind but I'll start here.

Sounds like you're looking for a Duracell Mobile Charger CEF23DX4 (the DX4 package comes with cigarette lighter adapter, the DX2 doesn't, so you'll need to find your own). The CEF23 is a simple independent channel smart charger, it has 12V DC input for cigarette lighter, and has a 5V USB output for charging devices.

Unfortunately though, this charger is getting hard to find. They occasionally pop up on Ebay from time to time.

+1 on the mobile charger, even if you cannot find the version that comes with the car cord it is a somewhat standard 12v cord set. I have found 2-3 of them at thrift stores for my chargers. I prefer to run my charger at home off a wall wart so it sits nice and almost flat on a table.

It's not on the Duracell web site, so I presume it is a discontinued item.

Yes, it's been discontinued for several years now, which is why it's so hard to find. I can't think of any current charger that meets your requirements though. Their current GoMobile charger has cigarette lighter port, but no USB out.

Yes it's discontinued. It was too good a product for Duracell to keep on the market

However, if you hunt around you can still find old stock from time to time. I picked one up recently at Toys'R'Us.

As it turns out, Radio shack has their own line.

It's called: Enercell® 15-Minute Battery Charger w/ USB Port

I just got off the phone with radio shack.
They said these batteries have discharge rate of 5% the first day then 1% daily.
Compared to Eneloops, doesn't that seem a little weak?

I know your options are limited, but beware of 15 minute chargers. They are very hard on batteries. Also the batteries provided are regular old type NiMH, not the new low self-discharge variety. You should not expect them to behave like Eneloops.

They also have a regular charger with the same options I am looking for.
Would that be able to charge Eneloops without stressing the batteries?

I don't know; I don't see any other charger with USB port on their web site.

However, remember you could have two devices: a battery charger and a cell phone charger. This would be more flexible as you could use both at the same time.

don't belive what they told you, enercell )new brand of radio shack batteries) is total garbage. don't spend a penny on them.
i tried it, self discharge is a lot faster than they say, in 3 weeks fully charged cells were dead, current wise, they aren't much better than alkaline.:thumbsdow

When they told me the discharge rate, the calulation told me they are not worth it. I was hoping that maybe the charger would work.
But, garbage batteries probably mean garbage charger.
:(

Go on a treasure hunt for a Duracell CEF23 Mobile Charger. They still pop up from time to time. Better yet, call Duracell and ask them where you can buy one.

If you can't find one local, better watch ebay like a hawk as they are going for $38-$69 on amazon and no other listings online. I was thinking about getting a third one awhile back I could probably sell it for $25 as rare as they are now.... lol

I'm sorry, but I can't resist:

"Take me back to tulsa, I'm too young to marry"
....:naughty:

The simplest way to achieve what you want to achieve here is to buy a AA charger that has the option of charging from a 12V cigarette lighter socket or from mains power - this shouldn't be too hard to find.

Plus you also would need a cell phone charger that runs from AA batteries - there are plenty of options from cheapies to better quality ones like the Sanyo eneloop battery stick booster which runs from 2 x AA batteries. I do find that to fully charge my fairly flat cell phone I end up completely discharging 4 AA batteries.

Also buy a car charger lead for your cellphone should be easy to find and fairly cheap - handy for when it is easier to just directly charge the cell phone. If necessary you can get a 2 or 3 port cigarette lighter adaptor so you can charge 4 AA batteries and your cell phone at the same time.
