is there a way to make the classic military angled flashlight bright?

something a neophyte could do. or is there a company that uses this configuration with modern "innards"?

any help greatly appreciated.

Hi there. That is definately an oldy. There is something you can do. I will be doing this myself to my military lights. If you go to www.batteryjunction.com they sell a brand of buls called Terralux. The bulb you want is their ministar 1 bulb. They make this one for the standard 2 d cell flashlights that have a pr flange like the army light and standard Maglite uses.

The bulb is a 1 watt led light bulb. It will be brighter than the standard bulb and the batteries will last a little longer. It costs about $12.29.

Check out Electrolumens.com's Anglelux light. It's a complete modified Fulton.

Click on Pricing. It's at the top.

I bought the Fulton flashlight with the LED at the PX located on what use to be called Fort Ord now called Presidio of Monterey Annex. It works for me with no problems except I will have to use 'D' size batteries instead of the 'D' adapters because the spring contacts will not make contact on the bottom of the adapters. I was hoping to use it that way but as long it is working it's ok with me. If anybody knows where I can buy 'D' adapters that will work in the Fultons let me know.

A spring mod is simple enough to allow it to work with the adapters. You can add an extra piece, or simply bend the spring to be smaller at the top.

Thanks Marduke for the suggestions. I did bend the lower end of the spring just enough where it made contact to the bottom of the AA battery inside of the 'D' adapter and is working fine and the whole flashlight is a lot lighter. Now I need to find some yellow/amber lenses to use.

thank you for all the info everyone. it is consoling to know i am not the only person who appreciates the design & history of this model flashlight. now to get to work bringing it up to current standards!

I tried upgrading mine, With a couple of the 3xAA to 1D and a radio shack Kpr118 bulb, I believe. Alot better than the stock bulb.

Not quite what you may be looking for, and slightly off-topic but my son has one of these:

http://scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/Ite...HTS&C4=&LV=3&item=24037&prodid=24037^8^01RTL&

It's plastic and runs on 4 AA's so it's not the brightest thing in the world, but the head swivels & tilts as needed. There are 3 emitters in a triangle pattern within the head. Maybe 15-20 lumens

BTW - When you read the description, make sure you notice it says LED at the top and then says krypton bulb at the bottom. The picture also looks like it was from the krypton age.

I put a KPR 112 and 3 CR 123s a Fulton once. It was a nice experiment. A heck of lot lighter than with D cells. I didn't leave it in that configuration very long, as my five year old likes to play with it.
