In terms of low output (specifically, red for me) and high output white?

Something a bit smaller?

Otherwise I'll have to go with the A2 (it's size is not a dealbreaker)

thanks,
dan

If you look there are some lights that have Comparable low/high like novatac, but if i were you I'd stick with what works. The A2 is one hell of a light.IMO

I realize my suggestion will run counter to what you're looking for, but if you don't mind carrying slightly more bulk a Pila GL2 w/red LED tailcap is a great solution. It's very durable and can take many drops without hesitation.

I agree with what's been said, there's no replacement for an A2. I have three and I each one has a useful purpose (dog walking, wife's car and the y/g is on the nightstand).

However, one light that has a (very) low-level red and a white high is the Ra Twisty TR85. Check it out at www.ralights.com . I have the 100-lumen version and it's a great light. This is the one you know won't let you down.

The LED-Lenser LL7736D may be close to what you are looking for. One red LED and five white LEDs.

They run from $25 to $35 depending on where you look.

The UI has two side-mounted reverse clickies, one for each color. Because they are 180 degrees apart I imagine it may be hard to tell them apart in the dark.

As far as I know, there is no other regulated incadescent light made other than the A2. In that respect there is no comparable to the A2.

The beauty of the A2 lies in the regulated incandescent mode. If all you are looking for is a light with low/high modes with white light then you have far more lights to choose from.

If you wanted a SureFire then you might be interested in the L1 - low/high modes of 10/65 lumens, or the E1L - low/high of 3/45. Both are considerably smaller than the A2, with the E1L being the smallest of the lot.

Regards,
Tempest

the other *Big* advantage of the A2 is that it has two different beam profiles in one, the LEDs are nice and floody, the regulated incan is throwy

yes there are other multi-level lights out there, the two most popular choices being the SF L1 and the Novatac EDC series, however, these lights have the same beam pattern on all levels, the L1 leaning more towards throw, the NT leaning more towards a balance between throw and flood

the two different beam profiles of the A2 are just so incredibly useful, there's a reason the A2 hasn't left my side since I purchased it, it's just that good

the Streamlight TwinTasks are vaguely similar to the A2, but the incan just doesn't have the punch of the A2's incan, and the SL TT's are unregulated, so they'll get yellower as the batteries drain

Maybe the original poster should add some clarification for what he is looking for. I saw a request for low output red and high output white, not a request for an A2 clone with a regulated Xenon bulb  .

It would also help to know what he needed as far as flood versus throw for the two modes.

The Coleman Component 1x123 or 2x123 white main led, red secondary leds.

Beam is flood type though.

I use a Fenix L1P as my EDC because of its size. Ideally I would have something with the same "white" throw with a red function (doesn't Radio Shack sell multi-color LEDs, a LED that can emit multiple colors?)

This is for the pilot cockpit but I also like to EDC my lights. I may have to relent and "have both" though lol :D

I suspect there are times that I will want the throw of the A2. I was playing with one at BassPro recently, very nice.

This does look interesting :)

Actually, the UI is quite nice. The white button has checkering, while the red button is smooth. Quite easy to discern in the dark! This is a nice light. I got mine at Lowe's for under $30. Quite compact for a 3aaa light as well.
