ok just getting into flashlights and keep seeing where some have switched to direct drive. i need it explained how to convert to direct drive. pics would help. does this do away with the modes and just give you on and off. please let me know if there is already a thread on this, i can't find one.

thanks a lot:shrug:

Direct drive doesn't always mean 1-mode, it's when the high mode isn't regulated, so the LED draws whatever current it wants to and takes the full battery voltage.

Try putting the following line into Google and you will get lots of threads with info. You can also reword the query ahead of the site if these aren't exactly what your looking for.

Here is my Direct Drive 101:

I love direct drive. When ever possible, I'll make my light Direct Drive.
It gives you the ultimate efficiency, close to 100%.
It becomes more reliable, no chance of driver failure.

Just need to make sure that the battery & led match to give yo the Amps you desire.

Most drivers have a bottom side battery positive in the center & a ring on the out side for battery negative.

Dill two holes & pull wires from led directly through the holes & solder "-" to the ring & solder "+" to the center of the driver.

Wola, it's done, you have by passed the driver & become DD. If your battery set-up deliver too much current directly to LED, then :poof:.
So you need to make sure that's carefully thought out.

I consider resistored lights direct drive. Technically wires are just very low value resistors.
