If you EDC a light, do you carry it with you when you go skiing? And if you edc a knife, do you carry that with you as well?

Bought evening ski pass this winter, wondering if I should carry fenix T1 and kershaw storm II with me.

Now I haven't been skiing in years, but were I to go, hell yeah I would have a light on me. I mean, I have a light doing everything else.

I would not have a knife, but I would have a Leatherman Wave.

Both. Especially a light that is lithium powered. Lately it's been a Fenix P1D for the strobe option. Add a small plastic whistle, a lightweight knife. All together, they don't take up hardly any space or weight. If you are able, add a bottle of water and a powerbar.

I have to add in a cell phone. I didn't mention it at first because it is an item that I always carry and just seemed like a given.

Story:
My friend went skiing with his teenage nephew at Heavenly Valley in a larger party of people. They eventually broke up by skill level and went off skiing with plans to meet up at the lodge at 4PM. The nephew never showed. It got dark. Now its 6PM and they have the ski patrol looking for him in the dark. They found him around 11PM on the mountain. Turns out he had gone a bit outside the boundries by 50 yards to rip up some pristine powder and got stuck. He lost a glove, wasn't dressed heavy enough to stay all night and was hoarse from screaming "help" at all the snow grooming machines that were out. He could see the lights and hear the snow grooming machines but the operators had no idea he was out there despite all the yelling and waving he did. If he had a P1D or any other light he could have put it on strobe and been found rather quickly.

I usually bring a camelbak, which holds 3 liters of water and a small pouch to hold a space blanket, gatorade mix, trail mix, whistle, compass, small knife, arc flashlight, fire starter, first aid kit, cell phone, and a poncho.

Its lean and mean and do not even know its there, but the extra water keeps me active all day.

I live in Georgia, so I don't ski lol. But everywear I go my Endura Wave, and P2D go with me. The T-1 also comes along, but I might not be able to fit it in a ski suit. Plus if you fell on that thing it would crack your hip.

Yes I do. Its usually my Arc AAA-P. I also carry a small pocket knife with me, such as a SOG Flash II.

Funny thing, just came back from skiing and found your post :) I do have a swiss pocket knife (I am in swirtzerland right now) and my trusty P1D-CE with me and had those along with me all day.

Talking about lights, I had the VB-16 and C2 with me as well, in my backpack. I wear only small lights on body, as when I fall (I did four times today) the bigger ones would hurt very badly and the P1D-CE should provide any light needed even in case of loss of backpack.

The Camelbaks are very good to take and recommend them. I have tried to ski carrying less stuff than in the past and have found that the backpack was the first thing I ditched. It was annoying on the lift. The slimmer hydration packs have enough room to put a light, and other snivel items without being too bulky.

While Skiing, I carry an L4 with a McClicky tailcap and lanyard in my right lower jacket pocket,an p1dce with leef clicky around my neck (on a breakaway lanyard), and my ARCp on my keychain. Also My CRKT PointGuard Knife in case I get hung up on anything and need to cut myself loose-matches in one of my pockets also.

Yep, never know when you're going to get stuck somewhere. Always good to have your essentials.

When Skiing I carry a Jetbeam and my Wenger Handyman Swiss Army knife.
On other days it will be the Jetbeam and my Victorinox Cybertool.

If i have pants on, i have a light, if i don't have pants on, i can reach the lights on my bedside table. Skiing is a hazardous outside activity, i come prepared for all of those.

I also carry a camelback, loaded with water, a little food, and anything i'd need to survive if i got lost.

I haven't skied in years either but if I went I'd definitely "pack." I mountain bike about 3 times per week and always have a light, sharp instrument, and fire with me, all in a Camelback Mule.

i havent skiied since i was in high school
but if i were to go skiing again i would be taking light, knife, firestarter, whistle and space blanket with me in my pockets
probably have a hydration pack with a bigger light, knife, firestarter and shelter too

I would if I went skiing again, and it'd be the Novatac since this is what I have. I'd also take along a GPS (always with me on trips since owning one). I have one of the early version camelback (close to 10 yrs old) w/ H2O and probably add some of the items dd61999 mentioned, like space blanket and cell phone. I'd add in a couple of chemical heat pads and a small backup light like the photon freedom or pak-lite.

Well went skiing last night, I'm happy to report the T1 holster is quite sturdy. The light is safe and sound after (me) rolling and sliding down the hill many times.

I'm glad today's knives are made of stainless, since my knife pocket is full of snow after sliding down head first.
